Man merkt so extrem, dass die Linux-basierten Betriebssysteme einfach von Usern für User sind. Alles, was mir in 25 Jahren Microsoft auf den Sack ging, ist bei Mint einfach besser oder konfigurierbar. Ich trauere so sehr, dass es Linux Mint nicht schon vor 20 Jahren gab, als ich 15 war. My mum is elderly and on her bad days, easily confused. Yesterday her PC booted into a 'Buy A M365 subscription now' screen which totally obliterated the #Windows UI and used dark patterns that made it hard - even for me! - to understand how to get access Windows.
I have remote access to Mum's PC. It couldn't cut through the #Microsoft ad.
Clearly this was not Microsoft's best moment.
I'm currently researching how big tech vendors serve elderly users. They mostly answer 'Use accessibilty mode, which follows #W3C standards'.
Accessibility modes are mostly amazing. Getting to them not so much. And they're not tuned to the needs of elderly users with declining cognitive capabilities. If you know more, I welcome pointers and comment

If it's confusing enough, maybe you will ask cop pilot to open apps.
If #Microsoft hadn't fired #Clippy, but had instead placed him in a role where he could flourish, he would not have trained on all that data to become #copilot. Clippy is on a vengeance tour.
Turns out that their data wasn't on their computer at all. I had to help them log into OneDrive to retrieve their data. They had no idea that it was only on Microsoft's storage service and not on their own computer storage.
This is also happening to people still using Windows 10. It is not limited to Windows 11 only.

Da ich #unplugtrump aufmerksam verfolgte, bin ich vergleichsweise schon weiter als Viele. So habe ich alle mir möglichen Verbindungen zu #Microsoft gekappt, inklusive natürlich der Löschung des Accounts nach dem Umstieg auf #Linux.
Eine schwierigere Aufgabe empfinde ich das #degooglen, viel zu oft verwende ich aus Gewohnheit noch die Dienste wie Maps. Aber in diesem Jahr wird das angegangen. Dennoch freue ich mich auf #unplugbigtech. Man lernt ja nie aus.

I'm sixty and have only ever dabbled in #Windows over the decades. I had always used #MacOS. I've never had a job where I was forced to use Windows. Looking at the absolute shitshow that #Microsoft has become, I really feel for people who are forced to use Windows 11. I can only hope that employers and government agencies start taking a hard look at Linux. (I can't believe I said that. Old me would have said "Switch to Mac," but it's only a matter of time before #Apple becomes what MS is now.)
@amoroso I think the average user switching from Windows to Linux should go with Mint.
I work at a Windows shop, and I switched to Debian two years ago (with my IT manager's permission). Most Microsoft apps work through the web fine (ie: Teams, Outlook) and LibreOffice is so compatible with MS Office that I can edit work documents right on my desktop.
For the few applications that have no Linux alternative (ie: SQL Management Studio), I use QEMU/KVM to run a Windows 11 virtual machine.
I've been extremely happy to get off Windows 11 - that is a slow, buggy and snitchy operating system!

I just know that "#Valve is not #Sony" and that they ain't fighting a war of 5 fronts nor willing to subsidize a product like Sony did with the #PS3 which at launch costed them at least $800 to build.
- Valve isn't trying to win the HD format war with a new & proprietary media they control, (nor sabotage their competitors on the console front) but unshackle themselves from #Windows and #macOS in favour of a platform they have more control (or at least their biggest competitiors don't have an iron grip!)...
#GabeN may not admit to it but #Windows8Bing and #Microsoft's attempts at killing off 3rd party game and software stores made his blood freeze and boil at the same time because just as #GabeNewell was ex-#Microsoft and they usually botch their initial attempts, he knew that #Windows10S and #Windows11 would come and try to choke Steam out of the platform.
- #Steam going #Linux and investing billions into that endeavour is a longterm strategy not because Valve likes #OpenSource and profiteering from #free & #unpaid #community #labour, but a matter of survival similar to how Microsoft had to react to the #RedRingOfDeath and suck up U$D 1,150,000,000 in costs or #Xbox & #XboxLive would've died with the #Xbox360's launch models.
Cuz remember: Whilst Valve is not a publicly traded company, they still are share-held and thus has to further the interests of said shareholders.
- It's just that GabeN is the biggest shareholder and his Superyacht even when at port needs maintenance and crew to keep afloat and legally seaworthy. His interests do align more with his customers than the execs at #Nintendo which nowadays are some Japanese Corpo Suits and not #Gamers, so they don't have any shame charging €200+ more outside of #Japan for the same hardware.
In the end, Everyone from #AMD to #Valve to the #Retailers selling the #SteamMachine and #SteamVouchers are doing this for the money. #HappyConsumers are a nice side effect but in #capitalism, #monopolies (and Steam is effectively a monopoly by market share) don't have consumers' interests in mind.
- They ain't a Public Roadworks, Drinking Water, Electric Grid / Postal Service / Phone Utility Company with state control and/or oversight breathing down their necks for every price increase or terms change. It merely happens that said shareholders don't expect the company to constantly increase revenue and profits in the short term.

- OFC #retailers also want their margin, and unless one's in a position like #Apple, the #retail margin will be 10-20% depending on the market, whether it's a #online or in-presence stores or whatever. And that is already a low margin.
Everyone who expects this a €499 box is fucking dellusional at this point, because with the current memory prices and expected developments people would just buy truckloads of them to harvest the #GabeCube for it's #RAM, #SSD & #VRAM and scrap the rest.
- Cuz already we're seeing the #RAM sticks that would be in it to cost €250+ and unlike #Sony or #Microsoft this isn't a #SBC they can sell at a loss unless they want to break their advertising promises and risk expensive #ClassActionLawsuits in #SueHappy #USA and extremely high return rates in the #EU respectably.
If the #GabeCube is competitive priced if not cheaper than equivalent #Desktops and #Servers then we'd see every #business with "strategic procurement" just buy literal truckloads expecting #DRAM & #Flash prices to not come down this upgrade cycle (aka. within 5 years) but still needing some machines to work with as the heightened prices - like the #ChipShortage before - will strangulate the #UsedMarket.
- I kid you not, we'd rather see #scalpers and #businesses equipping employees with cash, credit cards and high-value gift cards just to pick shelves clean (just like it happens) with #GPUs because that shit is now hotter on the black market than "research chemicals" because it has less risk and higher payouts.
So do expect the #Gabecube to cost way more than €749 + VAT and closer to €999 than €749 since #Poland has a low #VAT / #GST rate and is a 'low income' place (compared to the EU-Average)...
- The €749 would've been more realistic by the time it was announced but the €499 never were for any non-closed system subsidized harder than the #PS3.

@vonpearly @zendis Dieses Sabatical nicht. Aber München hat damals das Projekt #LiMux gehabt. Umstellung der Verwaltung auf #OpenSource. Das Projekt war Ende 2013 abgeschlossen, ein Erfolg und sparte Geld.
Es gab dann einen eMail-Blackout. Verursacht durch eine kommerzielle Software. Es lag nicht an #OSS. Dennoch wurde #FOSS in Frage gestellt.
#Microsoft zog dann den deutschen Hauptsitz 2016 um nach München. 2017 fiel im Stadtrat die Entscheidung alles zurück auf Windows.
Das zeitliche Zusammentreffen der letzten beiden Punkte zu beurteilen überlasse ich jedem selber. Ich weiß, was ich daraus schließe.
2020 beschloss die Stadtregierung dann zurück zu OSS zu gehen. Dieses wurde aber nie gemacht. Wer den Beschluss ignorierte und dagegen handelte ist mir nicht bekannt.
Ab 2022 kam dann auf alle Rechner #Windows und MS Office. #Libreoffice sollte dann bis 2023 auch wieder vollständig verschwinden.

Auto Encrypt Localhost is similar to the Go utility [mkcert](https://github.com/FiloSottile/mkcert/) but with the following important differences:
1. It’s written in pure JavaScript for Node.js.
2. It does not require certutil to be installed.
3. It uses a different technique to install its certificate authority in the system trust store of macOS.
4. It uses enterprise policies on all platforms to get Firefox to include its certificate authority from the system trust store.
5. In addition to its Command-Line Interface, it can be used programmatically to automatically handle local development certificate provisioning while creating your server.

Ich kann mir nur schwerlich vorstellen, dass die Software ausschließlich in Intranets verwendet wird und somit nicht nach Hause telefonieren kann.

Ein Ziel der aktuellen Überlegungen sei auf Basis eines seit Jahren bestehenden Rahmenvertrages mit Microsoft die Konsolidierung bestehender Lizenzen, um Kosten für den Freistaat zu sparen. Diesen habe das Digitalministerium selbst abgeschlossen.
Wer war zu dem Zeitpunkt des Vertragsabschlusses im Digitalministerium zuständig? Mehring hat den Posten 2023 übernommen, vorher saß dort Judith Gerlach, die anscheinend nicht zu den Freien Wählern gehörte.

Während Bayerns Digitalminister Mehring von den Freien Wählern die Auffassung vertritt, dass das Projekt aufgrund der massiv geänderten geopolitischen Lage neu zu bewerten ist, auch in Bezug auf Unabhängigkeit, wirft ihm Finanzminister Füracker von der CDU sowas wie "Fake News" vor.
Füracker sagt ferner: „Die Sicherheit der Daten des Freistaats Bayern ist unser zentrales Anliegen."
Was für eine Farce. Würde es ihm wirklich um Datensicherheit gehen, würde er sofort alles von US Konzernen rausschmeißen und auf quelloffene Standards setzen.

Microsoft Outlook problems: how to export all emails? [SENSITIVE CONTENT]
A colleague is stuck with a time bomb: the outlook account will close at the end of the month, and emails are only sync locally for the last 180 days.
But, the "File - Export" menu command is greyed out. The right-click and "forward" is also greyed out when selecting more than 3 or 4 emails.
Available is the account either online on a browser, or also on a MacOS desktop.
Is there any way to export all emails as an .mbox or as individual .eml files? Or to forward them all?
At the moment, all we could do is search month by month, select all for the month, and print to PDF. Generates ~50 MB PDF files without images and without attachments, but it's better than nothing.
