Here you can find builds for the very latest development version of Tauon.
You may want to use these releases if you want to:
- Get a fix for a bug that hasn't made it to a stable release yet
- Help catch bugs before they make it to a stable release
- Experience new features and changes earlier
Please report any issues either over at Discord or the GitHub bug tracker.
Note
Windows pre-release builds can be wrongly flagged by Defender, it is safe to whitelist them.
See #1062 for more information.
Warning
It may not be possible to go to an older version after using a pre-release build due to migrations, if this concerns you, backup your user data to be able to go back.

Welcome to Tauon version 8.0.0!
I'm excited to bring you this big update, which features a full port to SDL3 for better stability and enhanced features! I think this is the best version of Tauon yet, and I hope you do too!
New stop menu ⏹️
The new stop menu now gives more options for the behavior of auto-stop. You can now have these stop after the current album, and have this setting stay enabled.
Improved Discord RPC 💿
It now properly says Listening to Tauon instead of "playing", and shows album and artist on separate lines.
Important
On Arch Linux install the optional AUR package python-lynxpresence for this to work.
New transparency support! ✨ [Linux Only]
This update comes with a new setting under MENU > Settings > Theme > Transparent accent mode, which allows certain UI elements to be partially transparent. When combined with a desktop plugin you can achieve a blur/glass effect as shown above (Linux only).
This can be done with plugins such as Better Blur for KDE Plasma or Blur my Shell for GNOME.
Note that the center tracklist is left opaque for readability. You can still use Ctrl + +/- to tweak the whole window transparency for a subtle effect. Blur my Shell has a global setting for this too.
New Shuffle Lockdown shortcut 🔀
Shuffle Lockdown is a special "shuffle only" mode, removing UI distractions and only allowing you to play your library on shuffle while in this mode.
While this feature already existed, it was hard to find, but no more! Its now in the main MENU.
I think this is a pretty cool and unique feature, the intent here is to make it more accessible and well known.
Now including Charmed theme 🍭
Previously a supporter download, after some tweaks the Charmed theme is now included in the base app. Rizumu the musical witch is now here to brighten everyone's day.
If you're interested in creating your own theme with a mascot in the tracklist, you can use this theme as a reference.
Other changes
Also included are some long awaited fixes:
- Drop region highlighting now works when dragging in external files.
- Mini mode always on top now works on Wayland.
- Added a new lyric provider LRCLIB with new support in Tauon for fetching synced lyrics.
- Radio search box now shows the "Developer Picks" section by default.
- Fixed various bugs and introduced new ones for you to find.
