The dos_active_corporations dataset can be added to NYCDB by running:

nycdb --download dos_active_corporations
nycdb --load dos_active_corporations

The dataset comes from the NY State open data portal's Active Corporations: Beginning 1800 dataset. More details are available in a dataset overview PDF.

The Department of State keeps a record of every filing for every incorporated business in the state of New York. This dataset contains information on all active corporations as of the last business day of the specified month and year.
