I disagree. In many libraries or modules, we have the VS code settings. Also, it took us half a day to find the "eslint.validate": [ "javascript", "html" ] setting to have eslint working within HTML files, it would be great to keep it here.

You can easily sync your VSCode settings across devices, so I'm not super keen on the convenience argument. Even as a VSCode user myself, I don't think the code repo should imply or force editor choice upon users.
