Tomatwo - The Mean Twitting Machine (c) 2011 - Emmanuel Goossaert Under BSD License 1 - Install feedparser (RSS API) http://feedparser.org/ 2 - Install bit.ly API http://code.google.com/p/python-bitly/ $ sudo apt-get install python-simplejson 3 - Install tweepy (Twitter API) http://joshthecoder.github.com/tweepy/ 4 - Download the Tomatwo source code http://github.com/goossaert/tomatwo/ The settings.conf is where you put your Twitter/Bit.ly keys 5 - Setup Twitter to allow Tomatwo to tweet: A) Open a Twitter account if you don't have one: http://twitter.com B) Register an application on Twitter: http://twitter.com/apps When registering, choose "Client" as Application Type and "Read & Write" as Default Access Type. C) Change the CONSUMER_KEY and CONSUMER_SECRET values in 'settings.conf' to match the ones available in your application settings on Twitter, through the url: http://dev.twitter.com/apps D) Change the ACCESS_TOKEN and ACCESS_TOKEN_SECRET values in 'settings.conf' to match the ones available in your application settings on Twitter, through the url: http://dev.twitter.com/apps and then choosing "My Token Access". This also defines from which Twitter account the tweet will be posted. 6 - Set up bit.ly Create a bit.ly account on http://bit.ly/, and add your API key in the settings.conf file. 7 - Add cron jobs Add these lines to your '/etc/crontab' file, and change 'user' to match your user account, and '/home/user/tomatwo' to match the path where the Tomatwo files are on your machine. 1 0 * * * user ( cd /home/user/tomatwo/ && python tomatwo.py crawl ); date > /home/user/tomatwo/last_parse 15 0 * * * user ( cd /home/user/tomatwo/ && python tomatwo.py plan ); date > /home/user/tomatwo/last_plan * * * * * user ( cd /home/user/tomatwo/ && python tomatwo.py check ); date > /home/user/tomatwo/last_check 8 - Create the list of RSS feeds to crawl Put the RSS feed URLs that you want Tomatwo to crawl in the 'rss.txt' file.
