If `rand` is found in the link order after the buffer, then the code may be too distant to reach without a type-3 (20-bit) offset. This too-distant relocation was meant to be caught by `tld`, but was not.
This belongs with fea8100. Until the current commit, and probably since that previous change, there was a buffer overflow.
