Easily create Slackware chroot jail for testing and development SlackBuilds. Its for Stable (32/64) bits and Current. Inspired by debootstrap.
I use Slackware current, but as a SlackBuilds maintainer, i need to have Slackware stable installed to maintain the scripts in a clean environment. Using Virtualization is a simple plan, but for compilation and testing it ends up making the environment "slower" even with KVM. So this program does what I need, it creates a jailed environment, completely clean of 64-bit Slackware (Current or Stable).
--create|-c create/generate a jail, downloading all packages from
the official Slackware repository. This option requires internet.
--chroot|-ch After generating the jail you can always use this option to chroot
into the generated jail.
--backup|-bkp Backup your jail for later use.
--help|-h See this help.
This tool is available on Slackbuilds https://slackbuilds.org/repository/15.0/system/slackbootstrap/?search=slackboot
$ git clone https://github.com/slackjeff/slackbootstrap
$ cd slackbootstrap
# cp slackbootstrap /usr/local/sbin/
# mkdir /etc/slackbootstrap/
for 64 bits:
# cp slackbootstrap64.conf /etc/slackbootstap/slackbootstrap.conf
If your system is 32 bits:
# cp slackbootstrap32.conf /etc/slackbootstap/slackbootstrap.conf
I decided to keep things as simple and straightforward as possible. In the future I want to work ARM as well. However, I need people who have this architecture to test. In addition, it gives fewer possible errors.
- Instead of using a slack (internet) mirror, use a local mirror. (contributions would be welcome.)
- Use rsync arguments in a variable in the .conf file.
- Currently the directory (patches/) is not sync to create an updated chroot. The user needs to update the system with slackpkg in chroot. (Improve this)
