Summary

Remove font smoothing feature from site. Removes font-smoothing from guidance. Font smoothing mixins also removed to avoid deprecation warning.

Closes #2195. Related to uswds/uswds#5180.

Problem statement

Font smoothing was being used in site styles.

Solution

  • Removed use of font smoothing in website.
  • Updated changelog entry in Typography component.

Major changes

Font smoothing removed from site styles.

Testing and review

  1. Verify changelog entry
  2. Visit preview links above
  3. There should be no visual regressions
  4. There should be 0 warnings about using font smoothing

is-inverse is a site style that contained font smoothing mixin.

Thanks for the fix on this, @mejiaj. It is nice to see those warnings go away.

  • Confirmed that is-inverse was used only for font smoothing and can be safely removed
  • Confirmed that all instances of is-inverse and add-knockout-font-smoothing have been removed from the code base
  • Confirmed that this change removes all font-smoothing warnings when running gulp compile
  • Confirmed there is no need for a changelog entry here
  • Confirmed no visual regressions on affected pages

lgtm!

  • No references to is-inverse class throughout the site
  • No references to any font-smoothing classes
    • It's included in the migration guide from v1 to v2 but I'm assuming that is still relevant to the migration
  • No build errors
  • No visual regression
