Managers’ Welcome

On behalf of the Board and team here at Naas Racecourse, welcome to the first day of our two-day Flat Season Finale. The card features the Listed RFL Steels Stakes as well as the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Birdcatcher Premier Nursery Handicap - two highly anticipated contests that always draw quality fields, and this year’s renewals look well up to standard.

We end the season on a high with any number of quality contests in prospect over the weekend. One of our highlights today is the Listed RFL Steels Stakes, and we are hugely appreciative of the support from Rory Larkin and his team. RFL Steels is one of the largest and most reliable steel stockholders in Ireland, with over 30 years of experience in the industry. This partnership is particularly special as the race begins from the 6-furlong start, right beside the gates of RFL Steels’ headquarters in Naas.

As well as the opening maiden, which is part of the wonderful Pat Smullen Race Series, the Irish EBF is also sponsoring the historic Birdcatcher Nursery Handicap today. Both sponsorships highlight the support the Irish EBF gives to Irish racing, from a maiden for late-season juveniles starting out, to a valuable nursery for the more experienced two-year-olds. A big thank you to Nessa Joyce and all the team at the Irish EBF, who not only support Naas Racecourse this weekend but throughout the whole year.

We welcome two new sponsors to Naas Racecourse today - Osborne Denieffe Solicitors and WTW Willis. Osborne Denieffe Solicitors are based in the heart of Naas and provide a full suite of legal services to their clients. We thank David and Eamonn for their support today and hope they and their guests enjoy their day.

WTW Willis is one of Ireland’s leading insurance brokers, risk advisors, pensions and actuarial consultancies. Over the past 100 years, they have built an outstanding reputation for superior client service and employ 550 people across offices in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and Galway. Martina and her team offer great support to Naas Racecourse throughout the year, and we are delighted to have them with us today.

Finally, we are delighted to welcome back Kevin and Davina Walsh of Lily & Wild, who are a big part of the team here at Naas Racecourse. Lily & Wild provide top-class hospitality and service at all our race meetings, and over the last eight months, they have established one of the top restaurants in Naas with The Post Restaurant, open here seven days a week. They also have restaurants in Kildare Town and Newbridge, and we wish them continued success.

A big welcome to all our racegoers today, we hope everyone enjoys their day. As well as our pre-booked hospitality, our caterers, Lily & Wild, have plenty of tasty options for racegoers to enjoy, including full lunch service at The Post Restaurant, snack options in the Coffee Shop in the grandstand, and a full bar in the Circle Lounge.

We are back racing tomorrow for the final Flat fixture of the season, but we are already looking forward to the jumps season kicking off here on November 9th for our Return of the Jumps fixture. Our hospitality options are filling up fast, but we have plenty of ticket options available at www. naasracecourse.com.

RACE VERDICT

Johnny Murtagh may land the spoils with MOREHAMPTON, a fair sixth in a Listed race last time despite meeting trouble in running. He can confirm of that race with Fresh Fade and is just preferred to the experienced First Approach. The selection’s stablemate Nakamura has plenty to do now, having gone up 18lb in total for back-to-back wins. [Alan Sweetman].

Nezeeh and Escaping Thejungle are closely matched on their recent Bellewstown encounter and both are highly likely to be involved, as might Arklow Lad who won a maiden on that same card. However, LIKEDBYMIKE is well handicapped on her best form and she steadied the ship last time at Cork in the new cheekpieces. The nagging worry is that she has shown all her best form at that venue, though she’s unraced here.[Alistair Jones]

RACE VERDICT

A competitive race. Serengeti faces his most realistic opening for a while but it remains to be seen what effect pacemaking duties have done for his morale. Bishopton has improved all of a sudden, while Tina’s Indian, Genuine Article, Rowdy Yeats and Midnight Strike have chances. ON A SESSION was upside the last-named at Listowel on a day it was hard to come from off the pace and he edges preference. [Alistair Jones]
