Well, I've finished now and I *really* loved it.
Having come directly from What Happened to the Crew, this felt like such a great evolution. Crew felt like it hewed very closely to Type Help at first (which was already enjoyable) and then there were these other layers which were very satisfying to discover.

And now this! The addition of the visual element was exciting. Firstly it definitely helped me get into the story even more. Just having little portrait pictures to look at is surprisingly effective, and so straight away I was engaging with the narrative just as much as I was checking off times v rooms to unlock things and move the game forward. 

I really enjoyed the bit of variety in mechanics, having the items there to link to people, and the way they would give you a snippet of a scene even if you don't have enough info to unlock the whole thing. 

The Mind's Eye view was great too, really helped visualise the movement of many people all at once. 

That, combined with the map, meant I hardly took any notes on paper at all, which I normally do - and I love to do. Though I think my love of note-taking in games is really a love of 'games that require you to take notes/keep track/figure things out'. And this did, but the additions here of 'nothing happened at this hour/location', the Mind's Eye, and the note function just kept all that in game which was handy. 

Agree with the commenters below that I enjoyed the historical asides and explanations. They were just the right amount/length to be interesting and not overwhelming and I read them all.
