This was our first trip to Norway, and we flew all the way from Dubai, mainly to experience the country’s stunning fjord landscapes—a lifelong dream for us. After much research and positive expectations about Norwegian travel standards and consumer rights, we booked the highly recommended Norway in a Nutshell tour with Fjord Tours for July 29, 2025.
Sadly, the most important part of the tour—the fjord cruise from Flåm—was abruptly cancelled due to a mechanical failure ("boat is broken" was the only explanation we received at the terminal). With no prior notice or viable alternatives, we were rushed onto a bus with little time to ask questions or consult the Flam visitor center. It felt very impersonal and dismissive.
While Fjord Tours has offered a small partial refund (~20% of the total package), this doesn’t reflect the true value lost. The fjord cruise wasn’t just one leg—it was the heart of the entire experience, and the reason we booked a premium package.
We acknowledge that Fjord Tours is a reputable operator and that technical issues can happen, but we felt deeply hurt and disappointed by the way this was handled. Proper contingency planning and timely communication were lacking.
We are currently considering escalation to the Norwegian Consumer Council, as we believe this situation deserves a more responsible response. If any other travelers experienced the same issue on 29th July (or on other dates), we’d welcome hearing your experience.
Norway is a beautiful country, and we hope our review helps improve how such disruptions are managed in the future—for the benefit of all travelers.
Fjord Tours should take full responsibility, not just offer a minor refund.

Really enjoyed the rafting in Voss when I was staying in Bergen.
The guides who were in the boats with us were excellent, and fun to spend the day with. The ticket I bought included lunch was very nice and big, therefore, I'd recommend coming early if you go for the lunch included option!
It was quite straightforward to get to the place via train and taxi, but these instructions could be provided more clearly on the website as I had to enquire via email for the details of the journey once getting to the main train station.

We booked the Norway in a Nutshell tour for Sunday 11th May 2025.
We were a little apprehensive because it advertised itself as using public transport, so we anticipated that there may be a few slight complications - however this couldn't be further from the truth. Norway public transport runs on time, and everything about the transport was clean, and was an excellent way to see the scenery. These trains and buses are provided largely for the benefit of the tourists and nothing seemed busy or overcrowded - in fact it looked as if extra buses were laid on to make sure the tour ran smoothly.
The tour used the electric ferry so was quiet, and the ferry looked almost new as if it had only just come into service.
Before booking the trip we had looked at THE HIDDEN NORTH website - I'm so glad that we did. Emma (who writes the articles on the website) makes everything so simple, and points out the pitfalls that you can make. We bought a copy of the printable guide of Norway in a Nutshell, and for less than £5 it provided an excellent guide to what to look out for on the tour.
We were so fortunate with our weekend in Norway - Sunshine all day, for every day we were there and no rain or inclement weather - this made the Norway in a Nutshell tour even better!
Fjord Tours made everything easy - everything was done online (including all the tickets), no hic-ups at all, and the itinerary they produced worked perfectly.

Food, glorious food!
Our Oslo Street Food Tour was amazing. Our host, Shaf, was great – really knew his stuff and was a lot of fun. This wasn't just about food; it was a tour of everything! We saw different neighborhoods, buildings, people, parks, rivers, and even learned about Norway's strong economy.
But oh my goodness, the food choices were incredible! We were so well fed, trying everything from local treats like reindeer, whale, and moose, to delicious fish, fresh baked bread and locally brewed beer. And it got even better – we had a lovely warm cup of cocoa with a huge, yummy Kanelsnurr (cinnamon roll).
Thankfully, Shaf then took us for a nice, easy walk to the lively neighborhood of Grünerløkka. Then came the best part – the dessert (or snack, whatever you want to call it)! "Oh baby heaven is a place on earth" and, it's called Haralds Vaffel. We were already really full before we started on our waffles, but we kept going and ate every last bit!
Needless to say, we were very happy we hadn't eaten lunch beforehand. Thank you, Shaf! Thank you Oslo!.

To make it short: The trip was absolutely terriffic! From the moment we touched Norwegian ground it coudln't have been better organized. We had every information we needed, so it was relaxation at it's best. They even managed ideal weather for us :-))
Any downsides? Yes. The website is not fool proof. During booking it tended to forget our preferences and for the returntrip from Bergen to Oslo we actually stumbled into that hole and were booked on the wrong train. As we were naive (fools) we didn't tripple check and only got awear of it when we received the tickets. No big deal though. The guys at Fjord Tours were very friendly and helped us out and the change of trains was even at a very fair price.
All in all: Do the trip, enjoy a great country and return home with perfect memmories! Just don't forget to read before and after you clicked.

Norway in a nutshell was just amazing & perfectly organised. Make sure you get luggage transfer!

Everything was very nice, punctual, tidy, welcoming.
The only flaw wasn't being able to complete the tour on the fjords due to safety reasons (I understood due to possible presence of ice) but it was an incredible experience.

Great experience. Easy booking process and the trip itself was perfect. The best reserved 'seats' on the trains, all tickets in one document and excellent service during the fjord tour, when a different route had to be taken. Would definitely recommend!

Absolutely unforgettable experience doing the ‘Norway in a Nutshell’ tour. The booking process was straightforward, easy to navigate the website, tickets for the day were sent 4 weeks in advance and the whole trip went without a hitch. Would highly recommend.

It would be magic, but in our journey the flamban was out of order.
We got the money back, so everything is ok.
We will do that again in summer .

This tour has amazing views all the way. Taking the cruise and see the fjords and the train from Flam to Bergen were the highlights for me. This is a definitively must do if you go to Norway.

Norway in a Nutshell was booked in October 2024 for Feb 2025. Excellent communication and organisation. The trip was truly amazing, stunning scenery and all on time. Do not forget to visit the Viking museum during your stop over at Gudvangen, to ace throw and long bow shoot.

Because I was in a hurry while ordering for car-ferry tickets at Geiranger (for same day trip), I made a mistake. Only noticed after payment gone through. At first 'nothing could be done'. But afterwards fjordtours managed to get a refund for the unused tickets.
We had two days in Bergen after much time and expense to be here. Pre booked Flam and Fjord tour paid again pretty hefty price unguided tour. Just train tics and boat.
Tried to change the date due to bad weather. One day raining the other not.
Absolutely said not interested in helping. No flexibility to change even though unguided.
Disgusting customer support and zero interest in the customer experience.
Don’t book anything with them because if need to change they don’t care.
