Just had the chance to change prod on Friday, and instead created an issue due Monday
Dale Luck, one of the engineers who designed the Amiga, let me touch the Lorraine, the first working prototype.
I am a happy man.
When I come down from nerd heaven I'll make an extensive thread about it, with plenty of pictures and loads of alt text for those who cannot see them. I want to share this joy with everybody.
Looking for an infrastructure person who hands-on experience of servers and networking, monitoring.

Making the jump to #linux as a non-techie
Well, it finally happened, I installed Linux on an unused laptop that still has pretty good specs and is not too old.
How did it happen? I needed a new laptop. I ordered a new Windows machine from a brand I have liked and has proved reliable for many years.
But then, I set it up and looked at all the bloatware and 💩 I'd have to remove manually, and something in me snapped. I reset it to factory settings and shipped it back. 1/ infinity
@Geri I've heard mention before that a mile of new railway in Britain is several times more expensive than a mile in France, due to our Byzantine planning process. We rail against this, and want the government to cut through "red tape", until someone puts a bulldozer to a local beauty spot, then we get upset. Or so goes the tale. My interpretation is that developers always want to hamstring you. The only way out is to plan and build with direct labour.
@falken Of course, we also have a release blog: https://nextcloud.com/blog/nextcloud-hub25-autumn/
By the way I am still on the lookout for a transgender-friendly lawyer in #Poland who does online consultations in English.
I've already contacted several organisations about it, thanks for your suggestions of support organisations. At this point what would benefit us the most would be personal recommendations of trustworthy (=non-snitchy) lawyers.

Whenever I see "GenAI basically can do the work of a junior dev", I assume that those people are using junior devs very differently from me. To me, the value of a junior developer is maybe like 20% the code they write, and 80% is a down payment to a future where they no longer are a junior. I still haven't found an AI that could do that second part.

Because there may be a few #vintage computer nerds here 😄, here's a story of how #BBC #Wales handled the decision, for the 40th anniversary of #Eastenders earlier this year, to show the BBC1 globe ident as broadcast in 1985.
Instead of simply using a recording of the ident (which was only on screen for a few seconds) as other regions did, they instead managed to dust off & use the original signal generation hardware that had been sitting in a basement corner!

Read my two letters to the #UK:
1. Protests: I call for a review of the legal framework and the reconsideration of provisions in the Crime & Policing Bill that could restrict freedom of assembly.
2. Trans people: I warn against exclusion & zero-sum approaches

@SwiftOnSecurity Using Windows for work is actually growing on me a bit. Every time it locks up, I can have a little break.
RIP Drew Struzan, very few people left their mark in cinema history the way he did.

If you are about to reply saying ‘no Kevin, AI is the future, you can’t put the genie back in the bottle’… that was a great talking point in 2022, which wasn’t true then either.
Generative AI is a group wank of dying men onto soggy tweets. There’s no genie and no bottle, eventually people are going to go ‘…oh, this isn’t really a game changer is it?’. No, it’s just people trying to monetise copyright theft.
