Our Story
Racing to Zero was founded by Canadian Olympians and Paralympians who experienced firsthand how climate change impacts sport at every level. Bringing together a deep understanding of both the Canadian and global sport systems with technical expertise in sustainability and carbon accounting, we now provide a full suite of solutions for organizations across the sport sector.
Grounded in the discipline, resilience, and teamwork of high-performance athletes, our approach is practical, collaborative, and focused on creating lasting change.

Oliver Scholfield
Executive Director & Co-founder
Oliver is the Executive Director and co-founder of Racing to Zero. Based in Vancouver, he holds a BSc in Natural Resource Conservation and a Master of Management. A former member of Canada’s National Field Hockey Team, Oliver represented Canada at the Tokyo Olympics while earning over 100 caps and is a 2x Pan Am Games medalist.
Oliver also has a background in social finance and consulting and serves as an elected member of the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission. His combination of sport experience, technical knowledge, and commitment to performance drives Racing to Zero’s work helping sport organizations take clear, practical steps toward sustainability.
Oluseyi Smith
Co-founder & Chair
Oluseyi is the Co-founder and Chair of Racing to Zero. Based in Ottawa, he holds a BEng in Electrical Engineering and an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology. A licensed professional engineer, he brings technical expertise in clean energy and sustainability to the organization.
A two-time Canadian Olympian in athletics and bobsleigh, Oluseyi represented Canada at both the Summer and Winter Games. He also serves as a member of the Canadian Olympic Committee and International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commissions. His combination of engineering expertise, international sport experience, and leadership in athlete representation helps guide Racing to Zero’s work in delivering practical and lasting sustainability solutions for sport organizations.
