Found out totally randomly how to fix login screen keymap on #GDM on #alpinelinux 🤯️ Turns out there is a service called `openrc-settingsd` which magically provides hostnamed, localed, and timedated D-Bus services, so emulating part of systemd stuff... Just added that service at boot level:

```
doas rc-update add openrc-settingsd boot
```

And voila ✅️ That doesn't change login screen though, but at least you can use complicated passwords again.

One of your extended family members (so not someone you know very well) gives you a Christmas gift that you really like and you really could make use of it, but unfortunately it's broken (the delivery person's fault). It's kind of usable but let's be honest, that makes it way less handy. What do you do?

My typical social publishing routine:

New post, starts rambling about stuff or a sentence I find funny.

Deletes everything and cancels the post, this is shit and does not worth being said outloud.

* plusieurs destinations, ordre non important
* départ = destination

I have the feeling that every time AI is added to a product, it means that they wanted to add a feature but wouldn't commit to make it successful 100% of the time nor write a clear feature documentation so that when it doesn't work they can say that it's AI and that it's working as intended as it knows better what you need than yourself.

I'm back on @archlinux on my daily driver laptop (for now) after several years. During these years I was using @alpinelinux (and I still am on everything else than workstations) and I became package manager of multiple packages.

So naturally I looked for the procedure to become a package manager at Arch. Basically I think there are only 2 paths:

  • stay in the dirty sandbox (AUR).
  • get coopted by some other guys to be authorized to commit real packages and write a cover letter, after you played enough in the dirty sandbox.

The thing is, I don't want to play on the dirty sandbox anymore 😭 AUR could have become something cool but packages there are awful. I played my time as AUR user years ago and I decided that my resistance to pain has limits. Also as a user I don't want to build my package, and having it fail at upgrade half of the time.

Meanwhile at Alpine any newcomer is allowed to submit a PR to bring a new package or improve an existing one. This is so inclusive and welcoming. There is a testing repo, but it is part of the build system and testing packages are distributed as binaries like for "official" repos. Also the testing repo isn't meant to separate newbies from experimented maintainers, the packages there are meant to move quickly on one of the other repos.

I'm a bit sad. But I'll play by the rules if I have to. Or go back to Alpine as daily driver, I don't know.
