bfxr
Flash + AIR sound effects generator. Based on Sfxr.
The bfxr project by increpare is a sound-effects generator tool originally built using Flash + AIR, based on the earlier Sfxr project. Its purpose is to enable users, especially game developers and sound designers, to quickly generate retro, 8-bit/“chiptune” style sound effects (“bleeps”, “booms”, “zaps”, etc.) without deep knowledge of audio signal processing. It offers an interactive GUI through which you can tweak many parameters (oscillators, envelopes, filters, etc.) to sculpt custom sound effects; you can preview in real time, export, and iterate. The project includes libraries, HTML templates, and both ActionScript and JavaScript code. It has been well-received (over a thousand stars), but as of 2025, it has been superseded by a newer version called bfxr2, which is a JavaScript reworking of the original. -

NESbox
Emulator of NES, SNES, Sega Mega Drive, GameBoy video consoles
The nesbox/emulator is an open source, browser-based emulator for a collection of retro gaming systems (NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Mega Drive, GameBoy, etc.). It’s written in ActionScript/Flash, and the project includes SWF binaries so you can embed the emulator into web pages. The emulator allows users to load ROMs and play them in their browsers via the Flash plugin. It’s licensed under the MIT license, meaning it’s quite permissive in terms of reuse. While Flash is an aging technology, the project remains a practical way to access old console gaming via browser, as long as Flash is supported or available. -

Red Rogue is a side-scrolling roguelike game developed around Flash / ActionScript by st33d. It mixes platforming and roguelike mechanics: players explore, collect loot, fight, jump, etc., in a 2D side-scroll environment, with permadeath or roguelike style progression. The game has been discontinued at some point, with known technical limitations (such as running out of save space in Flash builds) and is now open source. Full source code is available (open source) so it can be studied or ported or modified. Visual and gameplay polish, platformer art, physics of jumping etc., aesthetic style, sound etc. (typical for Flash games of that era). -

Glitch Client
Source for the Flash-based Glitch client
Glitch-client is the source code for the original Flash-based client for Glitch, the MMO game developed by Tiny Speck. It includes the user interface, display logic, game logic client-side (in AS3), asset handling and communication with servers. The client handles rendering the game world, inventory, avatars, locations, games etc., via the Flash client. The client code was later released as part of the asset archive after the game shut down. Networking / protocol logic to sync with game servers, update game state etc. (though server code is separate). Asset loading and display: integrating graphics/animations, locations, items etc. in the client view. -

A FileReader polyfill for Internet Explore and Safari using Flash
FileReader is a polyfill library combining JavaScript and Flash (SWF) to mimic the HTML5 File API in older browsers (notably Internet Explorer and Safari versions that did not support File API fully). It overlays a transparent Flash SWF over a DOM element to allow users to select files, then exposes a .files attribute etc., so that client-side file reading behaves more like modern standard. It is unmaintained now, since File API support is widespread. -

Flashbang
Project "Flashbang" - An open-source Flash-security helper
Flashbang is an open-source Flash-security helper tool designed to extract and display flashVars from a SWF that is “naked” (i.e. not wrapped in a bigger application) so that security testers can begin analysis (e.g. for XSS or other vectors) without decompiling the whole SWF. It is built atop Mozilla’s Shumway project. It works in modern browsers via HTML/JS, can also be run locally, and does not upload SWFs to servers (processing stays local). It is still considered alpha quality. Clone the repo using the --recursive flag, so that all necessary submodules are cloned as well. Ideally, clone it into an Apache web-root (or any other web server). Prepare the environment for Shumway to work properly. -

glitch-avatars is a collection of art assets, animation, and source code for the customizable avatar system used in the MMO game Glitch by Tiny Speck. It includes illustrations, animation frames, and data that describe avatar features, enabling avatars to be customized in clothing, appearance, and animations. It was released as part of Tiny Speck’s effort to preserve the game’s assets when the game shut down. The server-side code that turned all of the avatar configurations into the sprites used by the game. The glitch-client repository contains the original implementation of the Vanity and Wardrobe. -

as3swf is a low-level ActionScript 3 library for parsing, creating, modifying, and emitting SWF files. Glitch-items is part of the Glitch game’s asset / source code archive by Tiny Speck; it contains definitions, data, and ActionScript source code for “items, Inhabitants, and other assorted things” from Glitch. It's not a standalone software product in the sense of a runnable engine, but rather a repository of game content and data used by the Glitch client. All files are provided AS-IS. Tiny Speck cannot provide any support to help you bring these assets into your own projects. Many of these files are not structured in a standard, straightforward way, and they may take a bit of your time and work to understand. The Glitch logo and trademark are not among the things we are making available under this license. Only items in the files explicitly included herein are covered. -

Grapefrukt-export is a suite of ActionScript tools aimed at exporting animations and graphical assets created in Flash authoring environment to other more usable formats. It lets authors extract sprites, movie clips, fonts etc., generating sheets, transparent images, animation keyframes data etc., so assets can be used outside of Flash, in different pipelines. Exports Sprites to transparent pngs. Exports MovieClips to animation sheets. Parses positions of parts in MovieClips and exports keyframe data. Exports Sprites to SVG. Juicy Breakout is a demo/example game created by grapefrukt (Martin Jonasson & Petri Purho) to explore and demonstrate “juiciness” in game feel, how small visual, animation, and feedback effects make a game feel more responsive, alive, and engaging. It’s built in ActionScript (Flash) and uses grapefrukt’s own libraries (grapelib) to handle game framework, input, rendering, etc. The demo showcases a Breakout-style (brick-breaking) game but with extra polish, effects, easing, cascading animations, sound, and visuals that exaggerate response so you feel every bounce, paddle movement, and collision. The source is under the zlib license, allowing free use and modification.
