The idea behind this is to be able to either specify a custom path or a wrapper script to use instead of default git executable
Due to a weird workflow, I end up without .git directory in the repo. I use a custom solution to synchronize files between local machine and remote server, but to use git I have to connect to the remote server as it is the only one privileged to push changes to the repo. This change would facilitate the ability to do that and potentially allow to enable some integrations with remote editing plugins, similar to vscode's remote plugin
