Introducing the Responsible Technology Workforce Series: Understanding a Field in Transition

The idea that technology should, and must, serve human values has never been more urgent — or more elusive. As AI systems shape hiring decisions, social media platforms influence democratic discourse, and algorithmic systems determine access to essential services, an emergent workforce has emerged to bridge the gap between technological capability and human flourishing.

If you're in the ATIH community, you probably know this work -- what it is, what it lacks, and what it could be, intimately.

But in this pivotal moment, we need to better understand where this workforce has come out of, what it has been, where it's failed and succeeded, and where it's going. That's why we've developed the Responsible Technology Workforce Status Report at All Tech Is Human. This series builds on:

  • Analysis of over 5,700 job postings

  • Interviews with key practitioners and critics across the ecosystem

  • Insights from this community

As a whole, these reports will offer the first comprehensive real-time mapping of how ethical, responsible, and public interest technology roles have evolved—and where they're headed.
