Welcome to the variety show.

I’m a writer and content creator with a lot of opinions and a storied past full of sex, drugs (only ever smoked pot and can’t handle it), and rock ‘n’ roll. In 2010 when blogging was cool, I started EMMASTHING.com where I shared every thought that crossed my mind for 13 years until I got with the times and moved my thoughts and feelings over to Substack.

I named my Substack “also…” because it’s how I start a lot of my texts to friends and my IG stories whether we’ve been chatting or we haven’t spoken in hours/days/weeks, etc. That’s because the conversation I have with my audience is ongoing. It never turns off in my head. When anything happens throughout my day, I’m taking mental notes to “also” you guys on it later.

You know how they say the best friendships are the ones where you always pick up where you left off? Like no time has passed? Like you could’ve not spoken for months, and they hit you with an “also.” text and you know it’s on?

That’s us. That’s me. That’s EMMASTHING.

I uncharacteristically live in Dallas, Texas with my husband, Zac, our son Ziggy (born in Oct ‘24), and our two dogs, Cece (Cavapoo) and Bowie (English Bulldog).

Once a week, I send the The Weekly Digress, which is a free letter containing everything I’m watching, reading, listening to, cooking, and shopping. Outside of that, I send specific, off-the-cuff paid letters that cover a lot of ground plus a few ongoing segments:

Things I Bought and Returned (TIBAR): Where I round up every single thing I sent back that month and why.

Motherhood: As a first-time mom, I have many, many thoughts and feelings to share.

Feelings: Where I house my more self-reflective letters. (read: emo)

Make ‘Em Laugh: Where very unserious letters go.

And then there are the Pregnancy letters, Reno(vation) 911! letters documenting summer 2024’s renovation, and I Feel Pretty when I have an uncharacteristic fashion or beauty-forward letter.
