Edit speech by editing its words.
Transcribe with Whisper or Grok through Puter in 19 languages. Click a word to jump there, select a phrase to select its audio, and press Backspace to remove it. A filler-word sweep finds every “um” and “uh” and removes them in one undoable step.
Take out the noise. Keep the voice.
Capture a noise profile and reduce steady hiss, with previews of both the cleaned audio and what gets removed. Gate the gaps between phrases, notch out mains hum, and high-pass the rumble.
Shape the sound with studio tools.
A 31-band Graphic EQ with presets, Bass and Treble, Compressor, Limiter, Normalize, Reverb, and Echo. Each one previews the selection, applies as a single undo step, and repeats with Cmd/Ctrl+R.
Record long takes straight to disk.
Pick your microphone, watch the input meter, and stop to drop the take on the timeline at the cursor. In desktop Chrome and Edge, stream the take to a WAV file you choose as you record, so length is limited by disk space rather than memory.
Region-based, non-destructive.
Split, merge, and trim regions, set each one's gain and fades, and rearrange with cut and paste. Your source audio is never touched. Try ten ideas, undo eight, keep the two that work. Nothing is rendered until you export.
Change pitch, tempo, or both.
Transpose without changing length, fit a clip to a target duration without changing pitch, or change speed and pitch together. Formant preservation keeps shifted voices sounding like voices.
Audition before you commit.
Preview Cut plays the join as if the selection were already gone. Loop a passage, type exact start and end times, move edges to zero crossings, and step the cursor by the second from the keyboard.
Mark chapters. Export them all at once.
Add point or range labels, edit them in a searchable list, and exchange them with Audacity as text. Then choose Export Multiple by Labels to download every chapter as its own WAV or MP3 in one ZIP, with filenames, durations, and archive size previewed first.
Intuitive waveform zooming.
Scroll to zoom toward the pointer, drag the overview strip to pan and zoom, or fit the selection with one click. The waveform stays sharp from the whole recording down to single samples.
Snap to the beat.
Detect Beats analyses the track and draws a marker at every beat. Snap your cuts to beats, whole seconds, or region boundaries, and correct the grid's BPM or offset by hand when a track needs it.
Export as MP3 or WAV.
Render the whole timeline or just the selected passage, locally to disk or straight to your Puter drive, as 320 kbps MP3 or 16-bit WAV. A progress bar shows the render and lets you cancel.
Pick up where you left off.
Every change autosaves to your browser, so a closed tab costs nothing. Save an .aeproject file to keep the whole arrangement, audio, edits, labels, and transcript included, and reopen it on any device.

Frequently asked.
Is Online Audio Editor free?
Yes. Local editing, recording, and export are free, with no watermarks. You do not need an account to edit local files. Puter cloud actions and transcription require online services and can ask you to sign in.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs entirely in your browser on Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox. Open the page, drop in an audio file, and start editing. If you want it on your desktop or home screen you can install it as a PWA, and it keeps working offline after the first load.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. The editor opens straight from this page with no sign-in. You're only asked to sign in to Puter if you choose to open or save a file in Puter's cloud drive, or to use transcription.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
Not for editing. Decoding, cutting, effects, and export all happen locally in your browser, and projects auto-save to your browser's local storage. Audio leaves your device only when you choose to: saving to your Puter drive, or running transcription, which sends the audio to the speech-to-text model you picked through Puter.
What audio formats can I import and export?
Import MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, or OGG when supported by your browser. Export 16-bit PCM WAV or 320 kbps MP3. Batch export by labels adds sample-rate choices and MP3 bitrates from 128 to 320 kbps, downloading named files in one ZIP. Save an .aeproject copy to keep your arrangement editable.
Are there watermarks, file size limits, or export limits?
There are no watermarks. File size and processing capacity depend on browser memory and device resources. Memory recording stops at 20 minutes per take; supported disk recording avoids that capture limit. A single exported file and a batch-export ZIP are each limited to 512 MiB.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Touch selection, dragging, and trimming work on mobile, including iOS Safari. A larger screen helps with precise edits. Memory capacity and recording-to-disk support depend on your browser and device.
How do I cut, split, or trim audio?
Click the waveform to place the cursor and press S to split there, or drag across the waveform to select a range and press Delete, Cut, or Copy. Drag the handles at a region's edges to trim it, and move passages with cut and paste. With snap on, edits land on beats, whole seconds, or region boundaries.
Can I add fade in and fade out?
Yes. Drag the fade handles on a region or set exact fade lengths in Region properties, or apply a continuous Fade In or Fade Out across a time selection. Amplify, Normalize, Compressor, and Limiter provide more level control. Effects support undo, and dialogs with Preview let you audition their settings before applying.
Can I remove background noise or change pitch and speed?
Yes. Noise Reduction uses a captured noise profile to reduce steady background noise, with reduced-audio and residue previews. Noise Gate quiets gaps; filters and EQ shape frequencies. Change Pitch preserves duration, Change Tempo preserves pitch, and Change Speed and Pitch changes both together.
Can I record audio with it?
Yes. Choose an available microphone or audio interface and monitor its input level. The completed take lands on the timeline as a region. Supported Chrome and Edge environments can stream to a chosen WAV file; memory recording stops automatically at 20 minutes per take.
What does "non-destructive" mean?
Your source file stays unchanged. Region edits and processed audio are stored in the project, and every edit supports undo. Save an .aeproject file to retain the editable arrangement; WAV and MP3 exports render the result for playback.
Can I edit audio by editing its transcript?
Yes. Open View → Transcript, transcribe with Whisper or Grok through Puter in one of 19 languages or auto-detect, then click words to seek, drag across words to select audio, and delete unwanted speech. A filler-word sweep removes supported fillers in one undoable step. Voice Recorder imports can include an existing word-level transcript.
Can I export chapters or samples as separate files?
Yes. Add point or range labels, then use File → Export → Export Multiple by Labels. Preview filenames and boundaries, choose WAV or MP3, and download the finished files in one ZIP.
Can I open Audacity projects or labels?
Audacity .aup3 projects cannot be opened, but Audacity label text files can be imported and exported, and tools such as Noise Reduction, Truncate Silence, zero-crossing selection, and Export Multiple follow the workflows Audacity users know. Export audio from Audacity as WAV or MP3 to bring it in.
What happens to my work if I close the tab?
The project autosaves to your browser a couple of seconds after each change and is restored when you return in the same browser. For anything you need to keep, save an .aeproject file: one portable file with the audio, edits, labels, and transcript.
Can I use multiple tracks?
The public editor currently uses a single sequential timeline with support for mono and stereo audio. Independent multitrack editing is still in development.
