If you strip it back, most of us are asking the same questions:
How do I live meaningfully? What does fulfilment look like? Who am I becoming? And why does the world feel so precarious — even as life has never been more abundant?

The Living Lab is my attempt to sit with those questions rather than sprint toward neat answers.

It’s where I explore the culture we’re shaped by, the identities we carry, the pursuit of fulfilment, and the ever-shifting texture of modern life — from the tiny rituals that anchor us, to the big forces that rewire how we love, work, dream, rest, consume, create and connect.

Here you’ll find cultural takes, think pieces, essays on the human condition, analysis of the online era, interviews worth slowing down for, and reflections on what it means to live well — or at least try to.

What you won’t find is neat frameworks or tidy takeaways engineered for virality (sorry).

Just curiosity, nuance, perspective and ideas — shared in good faith and with a willingness to be wrong, change my mind, and keep learning out loud.

You’ll usually hear from me once a week with a long-form essay, cultural commentary, personal investigation or interview (if you have an interesting story to share or something to say - please reach out!).

If any of that feels like a tug, an itch, a little inner pull toward more awareness or even curiosity, I hope you’ll stay. There’s room for all of us here.

And if you’re new… hi, I’m Lizzie.

I’m a journalist, writer and brand strategist based in Sydney, Australia.

My work has appeared in Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Refinery29, HuffPost, Time Out, Body+Soul, Australian Traveller, Mamamia and more. I’ve worked across Australia, the US, the UK and Europe with global brands including Red Bull, the UN Foundation, Afterpay, Viktoria & Woods, Intrepid Travel, Dove, Magnum and Johnnie Walker.

I’ve spent the last decade as a professional “words” person — from reporting and feature writing to brand storytelling and creative strategy. In 2019, I left my job to go all-in on my own business, and have since built a multi-six-figure creative career on my own terms.

Alongside this publication, I run The Solo Co — a space for self-employed women carving out careers of their own. Inside it, I share the practical tools, frameworks and real-world lessons that helped me build a thriving business from scratch. If The Living Lab is where I explore ideas about culture, identity and modern life, The Solo Co is where those ideas translate into action — helping others do the same.

But mostly, I’m just someone who loves to think deeply, follow questions to their roots, and explore what sits beneath the surface of our lives.

Thanks for being here. Truly.
I hope you find something that lands, stirs, challenges, comforts or expands you.

Welcome to The Living Lab.
