Inspiration
We all know being stuck on a loading screen for long periods of time is painful to watch. That’s why we came up with a small interactive mini game you can enjoy while you wait for your project or game to load in the background so your time isn’t wasted.
What it does
Idle Hero is basically a side-scrolling 2D platformer game where you basically have to jump over obstacles and obtain a high score. It is heavily inspired by Super Mario and the offline chrome Dino game.
To test our prototype we created a fake online-ide website to demonstrate how our program works. When you go to our website and set up your dev environment in our Online IDE, the website is going to set up user’s dev environment and our game will appear while it’s being set up in the background. Once your dev environment is completed, you can finally enjoy your website and forget you had to wait a long time for your page to load as our game kept users busy.
How we built it
We used HTMIL, CSS and JavaScript for the Frontend part of our project and game. We used Python for our backend.
Accomplishments we’re proud of
This was our first time creating a game as none of us had prior experience so we chose JavaScript as our primary language to create this.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into problems on how sprites work and how to animate our characters in CSS but managed to over
What we learned
We learnt how important how user-experience is for users who use our software and products and how time is very valuable in todays day and age. We also learnt how to make an innovative and creative idea so people’s time isn’t wasted while they wait for their page to load.
whats next?
We will improve our game by adding a proper scoreboard system that’ll keep track of user’s scores. We also plan on adding more challenging obstacles so the game doesn’t feel repetitive to users.
