Ever felt that amazing fiction writers on Substack were hidden gems, hard to find unless you already knew where to look? You’re not alone. Substack is a phenomenal platform for writers, but discovering new, specific kinds of fiction can be a challenge.
FicStack is a project built to solve that. We’re here to build a bridge between the writers crafting incredible worlds and the readers eager to explore them. Our mission is to make finding your next great read simple, and to help authors grow their audience.
The project has two core parts: the Directory and the Showcase.
FicStack.com: The Directory 📖
The heart of our project is FicStack.com, a comprehensive, searchable database of fiction writers on Substack. Think of it as the ultimate library catalogue, where you can:
Search and filter by genre, subgenre, and tags.
Discover writers you’d never find otherwise.
Connect directly with publications that match your unique taste.
This Newsletter: The Showcase ✨
This Substack newsletter is the curated front page of the FicStack community. By subscribing, you get the best of the directory delivered straight to your inbox. You can expect:
Themed Curation Posts: Hand-picked lists of amazing publications, like “Three Sci-Fi Sagas to Binge-Read” or “The Best Cozy Fantasy on Substack.”
Author Spotlights & Interviews: Go behind the scenes and get to know the creators behind the stories.
Platform News & Updates: Be the first to know about new features and milestones at FicStack.com.
Are you a fiction writer on Substack? We want to feature you! Listing your publication in the directory is completely free. It’s the easiest way to get your work in front of a dedicated audience of fiction lovers.

A Note on Our Mission (And How to Help)
FicStack is a passion project. The core mission is to help writers and readers connect, which is why the directory at FicStack.com will always be free to use and free for writers to be listed in. Community and accessibility are at the heart of this.
While the platform is free for everyone, running a website involves real-world costs for hosting, domains, and maintenance. If you find value in what we’re building and want to help support the project, you can do so here:
Every bit of support is hugely appreciated and goes directly towards keeping the servers running and the project growing.
Together, we can build the hub for fiction that the Substack ecosystem deserves.
FicStack is the brainchild of Gary Mucklow, who is building the resource he’s always wanted to see in this community. His goal is to help great stories find great readers.
You can follow Gary’s work HERE - he writes fiction too.
