Looks like it's launching this Thursday (15 Aug) for $399.
Coming with a curved screen, 1 sim + esim.
Any news on local colours? Not a fan of the Edge 50 fusion forest green plastic, cheap looking and slippery. This grey version looks the same – so hope we get the 'vegan' leather versions too.
Hmm, not a fan of blues that are towards the purple end of the spectrum (or purples on the blue end of the spectrum like on the Edge 50 Pro), so I'd say green is my fallback colour here should I end up with one of these.
I say fallback because between that and the hot pink of the Edge 50 Fusion, I kinda lean towards the Fusion. But that one is "vegan suede" instead, and I haven't handled one yet so I don't know how much I'd like it.
(Of course, if the smaller Edge 50 Neo or the lovely Jungle Green Edge 50 ever make it to Australia, both will beat out either of the above options. As would a $700 Razr 50 non-Ultra, come to think of it.)
Looks like NO charging brick included just a cable
Apparently the Indian release which only came earlier this month comes with a 33/35W charger, but the European release back in June didn't. There was a pre-order promo or somesuch that gave you a 68W charger though.
Very tangentially, G45 leak showing the colours. I love the cyan "Brilliant Green". Almost feels to me that buying a Motorola in any given year is a gamble in terms of whether your preferred model any given year has great colours or boring ones. Even if it hits here it's too low-end even for my trivial needs though due to the absence of OLED.
bad apple trend
Motorola AU have it on their website now and a 33W charger is included (phone charges at 30W). This is the same as the G84, and slower than the Edge series which does 68W. Confirmation that we don't get the magenta G85 as well.
Can see on JB too.... But with Edge 50 Fusion on sale for $499, would be crazy to not spend another $100 and get that if you had to pick between one of these today.
Tossing up between Moto G85 and a Poco X6 Pro:
Moto G85
-----------
Pros
- Stock/Native Android OS behaviour (not as clean as Pixel, but close)
- Cleaner UI and *much less* bloat than Xiaomi
- 12GB RAM
Cons
- Lower overall specs (CPU, Video processing power etc.)
- No high-res Audio codecs (i.e. no LDAC/Aptx) <---- this one's key
- No upgrades beyond Android 14 (?)
Poco X6 Pro
-------------
Pros
- Flagship specs for similar price-point
- High-res audio codecs
- 3 upgrades till Android 17 and security updates till 2028
Cons
- Xiaomi bloatware, telemetry, data sharing etc. (likely to have many gotchas across hidden apps and services. Uninstalling /unwinding all of them maybe impossible) <----- this one's key
- 8GB RAM seems to be standard. Not many deals for 12GB RAM
- Some reported issues around Aus Telco network compatibility (in the Poco thread)
Thoughts?
I wouldn't buy a grey import during this awkward transitional period, not before we see the actual results people get after the 28 October drop-dead date.
Can you reach for the Edge 50 Fusion for $447.30 at Mobileciti? It's what I would do if I needed a phone right now – i.e. if the 3G shutdown was still happening this month – but I'm now waiting for the new drop-dead date to maximise my options.

Hmm hadn't checked the specs. Will compare.
What's the issue you're referring to re. 3G shutdown? If Aus networks are already supporting 5G on Grey imports like POCO X6 Pro, 3G getting decommissioned shouldn't have an impact right?
You mentioned reading the Poco X6 thread, I just poked my head in there and there's some chatter about potential E000 issues? It may well be fine but it's something that'll be hard to confirm, even after the shutdown happens.

Yeah – my inference was something to do with Volte not registering properly and so, network drops to 3G? But, my thinking was – why should it matter if all networks are upgrading to or have already upgraded and are offering 5G anyway

Coverage would be the biggest concern as 5G coverage is no where near as widespread as 4G and it may take quite some time before 5G coverage becomes the same or better than 4G coverage.

2 years OS and 3 years of Security Updates is what I've heard for the G85.
Cheers
