Problem

On the v3.0.1 and v3.1.0 releases, three of four binary jobs completed but the x86_64-apple-darwin job sat queued indefinitely (30+ min) — GitHub's macos-13 Intel runners are effectively unavailable for this repo. The Apple Silicon macos-14 runner builds its native aarch64 target fine.

Fix

Build x86_64-apple-darwin on macos-14 too, cross-compiling via the universal macOS SDK. The crate is pure Rust on macOS (only Linux/Windows-only *-sys crates in the lockfile), so no x86_64 C sysroot is required. All four targets now build on available runners.

Applies automatically to the next release via release: published.

GitHub's macos-13 Intel runners are effectively unavailable here: the
x86_64-apple-darwin job queues indefinitely while every other target
completes. Build that target on the Apple Silicon macos-14 runner instead,
cross-compiling via the universal macOS SDK (pure-Rust deps, no C sysroot
needed), so all four release binaries are produced reliably.

Pull request overview

Updates the release workflow to avoid GitHub’s scarce macos-13 Intel runners by building the x86_64-apple-darwin binary on the macos-14 Apple Silicon runner (cross-compiling), so all release binaries can be produced reliably on available runners.

Changes:

  • Switch the x86_64-apple-darwin job runner from macos-13 to macos-14.
  • Add inline workflow comments explaining why cross-compilation is used for the x86_64 macOS target.
