What is your suggestion?

Update Terraform to 1.1.9 from 1.1.7. We currently default to version 1.1.7 if no existing terraform binary is found.

EDIT: 1.2.1 is out

Why do you want this feature?

There have been a number of CLI crash fixes in 1.1.8 and 1.1.9:

Are there any workarounds to get this functionality today?

Manually install the desired terraform version.

Decision: update to 1.1.9 and if we see bigger issues we can back this out or fix the issues.
