Hi, I'm Greg 👋

I'm a systems and infrastructure technologist with 18+ years of experience in systems administration, troubleshooting, networking, and practical engineering.

I enjoy figuring out how things work, fixing the things that don't, and building systems that are reliable, understandable, and easy to maintain.

🛠️ What I Work With

Systems & Infrastructure

  • Linux
  • Windows Server
  • Networking and routing
  • DNS, DHCP, NTP, VPNs
  • Virtualization
  • Storage and server infrastructure

Automation & Development

  • Python
  • PowerShell
  • Bash
  • Git & GitHub
  • APIs and scripting
  • Task and workflow automation

Home Lab & Self-Hosted Infrastructure

  • OPNsense
  • Pi-hole
  • Plex
  • VoIP / SIP
  • Network services
  • Monitoring and infrastructure management

🔧 What I Like Building

Most of my projects start with a simple question:

"Why am I doing this manually?"

I build tools and systems that automate repetitive work, organize information, simplify administration, and solve problems I encounter in real-world environments.

My interests include:

  • Infrastructure automation
  • Systems administration tools
  • Network engineering
  • Media management and automation
  • Data processing
  • APIs and integrations
  • Home-lab engineering
  • Documentation and operational tooling

🧠 How I Approach Technology

I tend to favor solutions that are:

  • Reliable over flashy
  • Understandable over unnecessarily complex
  • Automated when repetition makes sense
  • Documented so I know why I built it six months later
  • Repairable rather than disposable

A lot of my work comes from years of troubleshooting systems where the most valuable skill isn't knowing every answer — it's knowing how to systematically find the answer.

🚧 Current Projects

I'm actively developing and refining several projects involving:

  • Systems and network automation
  • Infrastructure tooling
  • Media library management
  • Python utilities
  • Home-lab services
  • AI-assisted workflows

You'll find those projects in my repositories here on GitHub.

🖥️ My Lab

I maintain a fairly extensive home infrastructure environment where I test, build, break, repair, and improve systems before applying what I've learned elsewhere.

It includes Linux and Windows systems, networking infrastructure, DNS and DHCP services, firewalls, VoIP, media servers, automation, and assorted experiments that seemed like a good idea at the time.

Build it. Break it. Understand why it broke. Fix it better.
