PR Summary

As a newbie, I want to create files, and thus use the non-interactive backends. The tutorial talks about them existing, but doesn't have the one line needed to create files from the plots.

PR Checklist

  • Has Pytest style unit tests
  • Code is Flake 8 compliant
  • New features are documented, with examples if plot related
  • Documentation is sphinx and numpydoc compliant
  • Added an entry to doc/users/next_whats_new/ if major new feature (follow instructions in README.rst there)
  • Documented in doc/api/api_changes.rst if API changed in a backward-incompatible way

Thanks, and I will try to contribute as I bumble around the library in newbie fashion.

Backport PR #14714 on branch v3.1.x (Point towards how to save output of non-interactive backends)

This was added in matplotlib#14714, and then backported in matplotlib#14822 to `v3.1.x`, and
a merge up must have accidentally included both.

Fixes matplotlib#17613.
