HaloZest: Let’s put some zest back in your halo!

HaloZest provides fast, fun, or faith-inspired stuff. We are a group of Catholics who love nerd culture, and culture in general! We create for ourselves because it’s fun, and hope that other Catholics and Catholic-curious enjoy it too.

We’re basically ‘Catholic Buzzfeed’, and we’re on a mission to build an army of witty, fearless writers. Not everything has to be funny—but let’s be real, it helps. We’re looking for content that’s fast, fun, or faith-inspired (bonus points for hitting at least two out of three).

Share the quirks of Catholic life, whip up an epic roundup, or interview someone who deserves the spotlight. Join us in creating a decentralized rebellion of joy, holy hot takes, and maybe a few slightly exaggerated stories that make people stop and think.

Think The Onion, maybe? But with incense. or hot sauce.

You can expect from us listicles, thought posts, roundups, and memes trying to be funny, relatable, and sometimes helpful.

We’re doing it different to other Catholic sites. We stand out like a peacock at a penguin convention. But let me tell you, it's not just about the zest with us. Oh no, we’ve got brains too! I'm talking about nerdiness so deep, we make the Mariana Trench look like a kiddie pool. Join us and let’s light up like we’re the Einstein of entertainment, mixing faith and fun like it's nobody's business!

Here’s what we’re not: we’re not worried about the end of the world. The Mayan apocalypse tried that back in 2012, and we survived because Our Lady of Guadalupe decided to make it her feast day on that date.

We’re here to have fun, and put the zest back in your halo!

Back in 2012, our founder launched this site as CatholicViral, a magazine to have fun and create cool stuff. Today, we’re renamed to HaloZest, and we’re doing things differently - because too often, faith-based content feels flat, finger-wagging, and fenced off.

Here’s how we’re doing it:

  • No Google Ads: We believe in a seamless, clutter-free experience.

  • Top-Quality Visuals: Goodbye to poor-quality images. Our content looks as good as it feels.

  • Inclusive and Dynamic: Inspired by Pope Francis’s ‘go make a mess’ approach, we’re not interested in overly-devotional content and embrace a lively, inclusive vibe.

We are a collective of creators, writers, and artists who use all sort of mediums to share fun. Some of us will also use generative AI to support our creativity, so you can enjoy wallpapers, artwork, and visual ideas you’ve never seen before.

Serious talk, for a second: When we understand the Gospel and how it can be lived in the modern world, we experience greater personal joy and a call to do good. This witness is the only credible, critical witness that grows communion in Christ. We need to model a culture of joy, accompaniment, and discovery.

Got an post idea that feels like a triple shot of espresso on a Monday morning? It’ll make you snort soda out your nose? We want to see it! Send it in and we might post it!

Stay zesty!

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you.

Phil 4:8-9
