What is this thing?
"Inside the Mirror" is the writing of me, Callid Keefe-Perry. It is where I post some of the poetry and creative non-fiction I write. Much of what is there is inspired by the work of Rubem Alves and the Brazilian literary form of the crônica, or chronicle. There are also archives of some of the poetry and spoken word pieces I’ve written and performed. I’m a nerd and I make my living as an academic, so you’ll catch flavors of that to be sure, but if you’re looking for my strictly “academic work” in the sense that phrase is usually used, this is probably not the place to start. It will, though, get you a better sense of the parts of me that are not just minister, professor, and researcher. I’m also not as social or highly-connected as I used to be, so this is also a way to send out a signal at a pace and distance that feels more right-sized and right-rhythmed for the moment. An audio version is available in podcast form here.
How often does a new post go out?
I can’t promise you with any degree of certainty. Because I still have a backlog of material that I am returning to from years ago I intend to put up at least one thing a week. I might post every week for a while and then not at all. Or every day and then nothing for months. What I do know is that I’m writing mostly just for me and inviting you to look in if you want.
Why subscribe?
If you want to get updates whenever I post something new you can subscribe for free. There’s a substack app for iOS and Android if that’s your preference. Otherwise you can get it in email as a newsletter, .
What are paid subscriptions?
A couple people said that having a paid subscription is a way for people to show they support my work. So there’s a way to do that. Occasionally I might post something for only paid subscribers, but that isn’t my main driver here. If you want to support my writing work financially, by all means go for it. But I would also be thrilled if you just read things, commented, and/or shared things that were meaningful to you with others.
