HistoryArt@piefed.social•Henry V catching an arrow to the face at the Battle of Shrewsbury (Graham Turner)

“Sire, you really shouldn’t lift your visor in battle”
“Bah, I can’t insult these dogs properly with it down. And anyway, what’s the worst that could happen?”
The only takeover “AI” is doing is fucking up the economy. LLMs will never be Skynet.
I’m aware it’s an old comic. And someone made a garbage attempt to “improve” it with their slopifier of choice. Just look at the letters.
No celebrity participates in their own fame against their will. If they don’t want the responsibilities of that attention, then they can choose to remove themselves from it. But as long as they don’t do that, those responsibilities exist, and while they can do whatever they want with their bodies, it is the “business” of others since it has an impact on others.
All that said, responsibility also lies on fans/society on how they treat celebrities, in what they put value in. Each influence and reinforce the message of the other.
Not to say anybody shouldn’t have 100% personal control of their own body, but celebrities do have an impact on societal views of image and beauty, and their choices in how they deal with their aging looks will measurably influence others. They hold the responsibility of what shape that influence takes.
I always admire celebrities that manage to refrain from falling into the trap of cosmetic surgery as they age. I know the pressure must be intense from “fans” like this to just being in an industry that puts such a huge value on appearance. It’s refreshing to see an older celebrity that’s accepting of their natural looks.
First of all, who in the world bothers to slopify a comic strip?
Second, no one buys two books like this for themselves, and if they’re buying one as a gift, they probably already know the content and consider it helpful, and so it’s most likely that neither are for them.
QED, the cashier needs a book called Logic for Dummies before she tries to scam more customers.

2·1 day agoIt’s not a mode that would be used often as it’s purpose is to protect the battery if the Steam Deck is going to be inactive for a long time. Most people will only encounter it when they turn on their Deck the first time, as Valve ships them in that mode. You have to go into the BIOS to activate it, and when you want to use the Deck again, it will only turn on by plugging a charging cable into it.
iFixit has a step-by-step guide: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+Enable+Steam+Deck+Battery+Storage+Mode/149962
Lost any interest in a new Scream after they blacklisted Melissa Barrera for speaking up about Gaza.

11·2 days agoThey’d need to get a new game out with an actually new engine before I’d entertain that a remaster would be worth it.
Starfield might’ve been interesting, but the old engine sandbagged it from the start.

Palestine@lemmy.ml•“What is happening to the Palestinians and to those who are speaking out for the Palestinians, is the 2025 equivalent of burning witches in the public square,”
1·2 days agoWhat is happening to…those who are speaking out for the Palestinians
It’s not. It’s still really bad, but it’s not “burning people alive” bad. As for the Palestinians, there are much more contemporary and horrific comparisons to make.
*On January 1st - mostly.

21·2 days agoIf the “special mode” is what I think it is, it’s just a battery saving method that’s also used on the Steam Deck. With that, it requires being plugged in to turn on at all, otherwise it just remains in stasis. After it turns on, it operates normally.
The recommended adapter specs are most likely just for optimal charging, nothing to do with the stasis mode.
They’re not marketing to casual consumers anymore. Their new target is just data centers.
It’s wild how casual people are about it. Data in 2013* found outside cats killed 1.3-4 billion birds, and up to 22.3 billion mammals a year. That’s just devastatingly high.

Linux@lemmy.ml•NTFSPlus Becomes "NTFS" as Driver Moves Closer to Kernel Integration
9·3 days agoYou might know this already, but some (all?) flatpaks are denied access to most drives in the system. I’ve used Flatseal to address that issue when it comes up, though there may be better ways.
