About Null Point:

Null Point is a space for work that resists the demand to explain itself.
Here you’ll find fiction, poetry, and criticism that lean toward the edges—where language strains against silence, where a scene holds more than it resolves.

Founded and edited by Brock Eldon, Null Point began as a weekly practice in short-form fiction and poetry, running parallel to his literary criticism on The Commonplace Book. It has since become a home for pieces that don’t belong anywhere else: fragments, fully formed stories, essays in miniature, and experiments in voice and structure.

At Null Point, form is never a fixed thing. Stories may arrive in the shape of a photograph, a list, a voice overheard, or a dream recounted in full. The aim is not to satisfy an algorithm or follow a trend, but to write toward what feels necessary—and to publish when it feels right.

The name comes from the idea that the most vivid work often emerges from stillness: the moment before movement, the pause before decision. Here, the null point is not absence—it’s the place from which the work begins.

Expect:

  • Fiction in all its guises, from tightly wound flash pieces to wandering narratives.

  • Poetry that values precision, atmosphere, and the charged space between images.

  • Occasional criticism and commentary on books, film, and art, written for readers who want more than a summary.

Avoid expecting:

  • Safe endings.

  • Easy morals.

  • Content designed for quick scrolling.

If you read something here that stays with you—something that bothers you, or compels you to look again—then Null Point has done its work.
