Why subscribe?
There are several reasons that your subscription matters. The more subscribers I have, the more Substack will suggest my articles and essays to other readers with similar interests. Why does that matter? Because facts and knowledge, widely shared, are the structures on which democracy depends.
My goal is always to educate through sharing what I learn. And I believe in learning every day. I believe in doing my best to discern fact from misinformation and lies. Journalists, essayists, nonfiction writers and podcasters… we are all really just TEACHERS at the most basic level of our being.
Some (many) in these public spaces where ideas and information is shared are certainly charlatans preaching false narratives. I believe they know exactly what they’re doing. They don’t believe their own lies, they lie and sensationalize for ratings and for audience reach. I promise that I will never do that. I’d rather reach 5 people with truth than reach 100 people with lies. When I discover that I’ve published something that’s wrong, I’ll admit it and explain why. I’ll delete it so that it goes no further. That is integrity. And I do my best to always have integrity in everything I do.
So please subscribe. Subscribe for free - I’d rather be read and share my ideas and perspectives without remuneration than not share at all. But if you can help with a paid subscription, please do so. Researching and writing takes time. Yes, it is a privilege to be able to do it, but time is not free.
