Goodbye decentralized and open platforms, and goodbye open-source software and hardware.

Repealing Section 230 will end the very existence of ActivityPub/the Fediverse, ATproto/Bsky, and even software like Linux because it goes against Big Tech’s wishes for world domination.

I hope everyone likes being roped into Big Tech’s silos before getting eventually disappeared.

Besides the fact that I highly doubt this will ever pass…

I think if it did, it would greatly increase the adoption of decentralized platforms.

If websites become responsible for user-generated content, they will just refuse to allow user-generated content in the first place, leading to an explosion in alternative services that are not beholden to the actions of one company that could be compelled to act a certain way.

Does it matter if they’re responsible anymore? We’re talking about companies that have become so titanically large and so obscenely rich that there’s literally no way to challenge them for any normal person. Not even to mention the extreme level of capture and Corruption of the justice system. Does Jeff Bezos or Mark Zuckerberg or whoever else we’re talking about have to worry about anything if at the drop of a hat they can just turn to an Administration that will sabotage any possible retribution?
