Been there, done that, and colleagues usually complain in the PRs that those one liners don’t need to be separate functions and are perfectly fine when used inline.

Common scenario to collect data about gullible people and scam them later - or just to get them to like a certain page and then sell the page with the likes.
Local supermarket chain is giving away free cars, just like this post and add a comment. Oh, and by the way the page was created two days ago and has 15 likes - must be legit!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone just feels extremely annoyed when other people are playing their videos on loudspeaker?English
26·6 days agoFrom time to time I see people taking video calls on speaker in public (in enclosed spaces where everyone else can hear); in situations like this I’m always tempted to pop into the frame and say “HELLO!” since apparently the call is public, not private, and that maybe they’ll get a hint. I’ve never actually done it since I have the common decency, but others, sadly, just don’t seem to take social cues.

7·7 days agoJust use a list. Untick anything that you finish or you see needs to be bought (or add it if it’s not there), tick anything you buy at the store. Share the list across the household so that everyone (hopefully) does the same.
Directional cables kind of make sense in an analogue, single-ended connection if it’s about the shielding being connected to ground only on one side… although I haven’t tried it in practice. Still, it has nothing to do with signal directionality, just noise rejection. The ground lift switch on some devices does the same.

Technology@lemmy.world•Leaker Who Apple Is Suing Says 'Screw It,' Here's the Foldable iPhone EarlyEnglish
2·9 days agoI’m prone to believing that a lot of those things presented as “leaks” are actually the company in question doing it by themselves behind the curtains - because let’s face it - people want sensationalism and they won’t shut up about something like that.
Someone forgot an unreleased phone at a bar? I call bullshit.
I had some of those on as wallpapers for years.
Do catch up on Portal 2 when you can - even just the JK Simmons voice acting makes it worth it IMO.
It might be a final solution too if you’re not careful…

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Some people prefer corn for some ungodly reason English
41·14 days agoMight be an allergy. I used to have something like this with some foods some years ago. What’s interesting is that now I don’t seem to have it any more with the same foods; it might be true what they say about allergies - that they come and go. Not a medical professional - just speaking from my experience.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How long until we can start shorting years to 2 numbers again?English
1·14 days agoContext is everything.
“When are you guys coming over?”
“We were thinking 20th, but I couldn’t get off work then, so 21st it is.”
If you’re in that conversation, you’d be perfectly clear of what’s up. Imagine having to append “of December” to both dates (or also the year for that matter).
If it’s something more than a year ahead, then sure, I’ll include the month and the year - but that’s still going from most specific to least specific (i.e. day, month, year).

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How long until we can start shorting years to 2 numbers again?English
4·14 days agoDepends on the language honestly. In my native language (that’s not English) it sounds somewhat clumsy with the zero in front, but it’s still sometimes used. Depending on the context it might be a simple number (zero two) or it might be an ordinal (zero second). From 2010 and on it’s been easier because you just say the equivalent of “tenth”, “eleventh” and so on.
In writing it also depends on the context - if it’s something ambiguous (that could be 1925 or 2025), then sure, write the full year, otherwise two digits are fine.

I remember getting ice cream from McDonald’s - must’ve been 15 years ago. It was somewhat nice, but then the whole “the ice cream machine is broken” thing started and I haven’t bothered any more. Can’t tell about the rest of the food, but I share the sentiment that if it’s getting shittier and shittier, you shouldn’t support it.
