Too bad so few projects use the torrenting / DHT technology. Though I guess for GrapheneOS it makes less sense than for a lot of other projects, considering that it’s an OS update, and that mobile devices are battery-sensitive.

Australia@aussie.zone•Australians Overwhelmingly In Support Of Gun Law ReformEnglish
2·7 天前Aww, I think I just failed to read the article carefully, because how otherwise could I have missed the mention of protest laws? (It’s really there, even though once.)
Thanks for the explanation!
I’m curious about this, will also be watching how it evolves

theNetherlands@feddit.nl•Waarom krijg ik op Reddit zoveel downvotes als ik probeer mij uit te spreken tegen migrantenhaat?Nederlands
2·8 天前Reddit is prone to manipulation. So what you read on Reddit is not the same as what people think if you ask them.
E.g. this: https://lemmy.ml/post/40603414?sort=Top
Two accounts on Reddit post 30%-50% of all content on r/conservative on a daily basis except one day when there happened to be a power outage in part of Moscow
(I don’t think the linked post is fully objective and has enough evidence support, but it at least clearly shows the risk.)

Australia@aussie.zone•Australians Overwhelmingly In Support Of Gun Law ReformEnglish
21·8 天前I don’t mean to contradict, and I’m not an AU citizen/resident. But can you please clarify, how does the article connect to “protest rights” that you mentioned?
I see that it talks about gun laws and exclusively about them. Can you in AU protest without guns? I’m an outsider, but for me an obvious “yes” comes to mind. So what’s the problem with not having a gun then?
While I agree, it’s a bit sad that torrenting architecture is not used. The DHT is a beautiful and effective+efficient piece of technology. You can have gigabytes of content shared for literally less than a Euro/dollar; and it’ll be perfectly scalable if a million people use it suddenly, too.
I somehow couldn’t bear the “self-scratch self-praise” top part of the post, but starting with
"But the balance is crucial"it was really interesting to read! Contrary to my initial fears, it’s not a self-praise post, but actually useful and talks about problems too.

2·8 天前Yes please!
Where to, if I may ask? What were the reasons? (/me in the Netherlands currently. Love the cycling paths and many cultural aspects, hate investing time to learn a language that is widely spoken by… 1/500th of the world population.)

Pine64@lemmy.ml•I'm thinking of buying a Pinephone. Trying to get an idea off what I'm getting into...
2·14 天前Calls - sure.
Texts - sure.
Signal was laggy and inconvenient to install. Other, native, messengers are better, but if you require Signal, you may need to accept lags during startup. BTW, audio (in other messages) with wired headphones was perfect.
Also, battery’s gonna be somewhat of a pain most likely. At least without battery optimization, which IDK if it exists; I never did.

Pine64@lemmy.ml•My PinePhone running postmarketOS is now hooked up to a hub and my TV with a mouse for input. Impressed this modest device can run multiple screens and apps. @postmarketOS
1·14 天前I’ve used it with my PP + “convergence” hub, it worked, but I don’t remember for sure if it was Phosh or Plasma… It was Arch-based though, IIRC simply Arch? Otherwise Manjaro.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Spain to launch €60 monthly nationwide public transport passEnglish
2·19 天前Though you can cycle for free ^^
And that’s most frequently the fastest and easiest transport between two points in a city, by a margin.
(I’m still envious about the rail prices.)

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Spain to launch €60 monthly nationwide public transport passEnglish
5·19 天前I’m envious. In the Netherlands, you can only buy a train pass for 376 Euros. And that’s just the train: no buses, no trams, not even those faster “intercity” trains.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•GOG formally announce their GOG Patrons subscription donation systemEnglish
4·20 天前Agreed. Besides other things like non-old games on “old games” website as you say, they were also caught not enforcing DRM, even though their biggest selling point is DRM-free games. Nevertheless, with some exceptions, you generally get good stuff, and it’s a good and reputable store overall.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•GOG formally announce their GOG Patrons subscription donation systemEnglish
17·20 天前Pretty biased and low-quality article TBH.
-
They’re talking about this news from GOG, yet they don’t even link the official announcement. Only their own old news. Meh.
-
What GOG really introduced is a way to financially support GOG, for various small perks. Yet the article somehow infers that GOG is doing bad financially, without providing any links to that conclusion.
-
The view is quite capitalistic to be honest. Everything is looked at from the prism of money. Money this, money that. “Epic Games … burn money … decline … purchases …” (Yes, the news is for GOG but they’re discussing Epic Games.)
Anyway, GOG remains not an ideal place, but by far the best for-profit game distribution company I think. I have 10-20 games from that store, and I’m quite happy that my games are from there and not other platforms. All DRM-free.
-
I’ve tried it out of curiosity, it works for me. I had a link where they recommended clicking though, to fix it and to make it work. I don’t see it on your screenshot. I think I got a (slightly different) warning with a link when I tried to open Silence as an app.
Regardless, it was essentially to open Settings > Apps > All Apps > find Silence > click somewhere (I forgot where exactly) to enable the potentially very unsafe thing of full SMS access. I think it was on the top right where I needed to click in the last step. Afterwards, Silence can be selected as the default SMS handler.
That being said, I personally mostly use Signal and Matrix nowadays. The phone lasts for… 2 days probably? IDK. I’m not really happy with either messenger BTW, but it’s the best shot for now, for me
