301·1 year agoHuh interesting. Move company to a place where you can’t find local workers, use as justification for hiring H1Bs, profit off slave wages.

AskBeehaw@beehaw.org•What is the appropriate way for men to romance women?

- Be attractive
- Don’t be unattractive
If you follow those you shouldn’t have any problems.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Novel 2-chain bike aims at rock-solid ride and rugged redundancyEnglish
42·1 year agoI don’t mean to brag, but I read the article. All the comments talking about chain breaking are missing the actual point. The original bike was a fixed gear. Having two chains allows this model to have 2 gears to aid with hills or carrying cargo.
Why 2 chains you ask? Imagine you wanted to have a two gear bike with as few moving parts as possible. Chain repair is also relatively easy with a simple tool.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What jobs can you get if you dropped out of a PhD in math with an MS?
41·1 year agoReal talk, programming is your best bet. Companies don’t hire “smart” people anymore in the hopes they can teach them to do the job, so the math background doesn’t really put you ahead of someone with specific training.
If you hate programming though, I would pop back into undergrad and get a second bachelors in Accounting (you should be able to skip all the gen ed reqs). You could prob do it in 3-4 semesters.

0·1 year agoImagine you have to move to a new town and you only have 1 POD for your stuff. What do you take? Also important, what are the first things you buy when you get to your new place?
Another experiment, suppose you have enough money to house and feed yourself. What are the things you find yourself wanting/needing to buy?
Some of what’s on your list and everything not on it is a luxury.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the point of the "Airport Security" (aka: TSA) in the USA? Does the "Airport Security" ever actually scare away potential terrorists?

There’s a “That’s what she said” joke in here somewhere.
