Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•A group of crows is a murder. A group of apes is a shrewdness. What's a group of you called?
4·16 hours agoI figured someone must’ve posted this by now but no! A boredom.
I’d love to see changes over time too. May be tricky to visualise on a map?

3·1 day agoI can attest to its effects on mood, but I cannot quantify it. Solidly in the realm of things that I can recommend but can’t say exactly why I do.

News@lemmy.world•US Billionaire Wealth Surges to $8.1 Trillion as Affordability Crisis Hammers Working Class
32·1 day agoThe problem is the concentration of wealth into the hands of a few, so that sounds fine to me if the your hypothetical came true and we all gained $20,000. And that’s ignoring all the other positive externalities that may occur with this redistribution of wealth, such as societal change.
$20,000 would go a long way for a lot of people, too. So yes, I do like to hear it. Very much indeed.

He’s not going to be able to speak to any Japanese person in Chinese, if that’s what you believe will happen.
So English is stolen from French? Loanwords are exactly that. As Pugjesus has mentioned, Japanese isn’t even from the same language family as Chinese.
Ramen is widely a considered to be a “Chinese” dish here, so that much I think you can let slide, although it bears little resemblance of any kind of Chinese noodle dish I can think of. As far as I know, it originated from Chinese restaurants in Japan during the Bakumatsu to Meiji era.
Consider educating yourself about Japan before making comments about a country you don’t understand.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people still eat beef when we know it's terrible for Earth?
2·3 days agoGrain based diet would ruin our immune systems, and the health of the soil, without animal fertilizer.
And we haven’t even started on the effects of Glyphosate yet!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people still eat beef when we know it's terrible for Earth?
2·3 days agoIf you consider nutrient bio-availability, eating meat is order of magnitudes cheaper for the nutrition we’re getting. It’s a no-brainer if only people would give it a go.
Humans make methane too, btw, if we eat vegetables. Much, much less on carnivore in my personal experience, and I’ve not found any studies on environmental impact that even attempt to factor this in.
You get to avoid things like the cyanide found in almonds by not eating nuts, hey.

How are you so confident that this is the case?
