Welcome to Ruby’s Recs! A newsletter dedicated to book recommendations (and occasionally other recommendations).
Books have always been my job. I am a former independent bookseller (a proud Three Lives & Company alum) and now work in editorial at a publishing and production company. I’ve also worked in independent sales at Simon & Schuster and was a reader for the Paris Review. I read a ton for work and for fun and am constantly recommending books to my friends and family. This newsletter is a home for my favorite reads!
When I was bookselling I spent my days compiling stacks of books for people who came into the shop and asked things like, “I just read Normal People and loved it, what other novels will I like?” or “I want to get into poetry, what are your favorite collections?” or “What are the best food memoirs?” I started to keep lists of books that I could suggest for every need and occasion. Since I stopped bookselling I don’t have as many chances to heap these recommendations on people, hence this newsletter.
Often each issue will revolve around a specific theme or question and sometimes they will just be random books I have enjoyed!
