Stephanie Rodríguez is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies and Director of Lives in Translation, whose research focuses on translation technologies and human-computer interaction, bilingual language development, and language brokering.
Professor Stefon Harris has invented Harmony Cloud, an AI-powered software platform to help musicians practice the art of not knowing what comes next. The app can generate any number of sounds and combinations—from one note to hundreds—with which a musician can play along. It was designed to help develop the art of improvisation.
Associate Professor Jason Cortés, who currently serves as Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at RU-N, has been selected as the new Dean of the Honors Living and Learning Center (HLLC). Cortés will assume the role on March 1 from Professor Timothy Eatman, the inaugural Dean who has led HLLC since 2017.
This month Alec Gates, Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, is publishing Wicked Weather: Natural Disasters that Changed History, which examines how natural disasters have changed the course of history and how countries can employ disaster mitigation strategies to limit damage and help communities respond and recover effectively from climate-related events.
