Masters of Arts Program in Psychology at Rutgers-Newark
The Psychology Department at Rutgers-Newark offers a two-year graduate program leading to the Master of Arts degree. This program is designed for students who want ultimately to pursue doctoral training in psychology but first need to develop their research skills and portfolios. Students may apply to pursue research and coursework in one of our four areas of specialization: Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Neuroscience, or Social Psychology. Once admitted, students will receive 1:1 mentoring, complete four semesters of graduate coursework, and pursue independent research leading to a master's thesis.
Applications require three letters of recommendation, undergraduate transcripts, a personal statement, and identification of a faculty mentor in the Rutgers-Newark Psychology Department.
The current deadline for applications is March 1, for admission by the subsequent Fall term. Students are only admitted for full-time study beginning in the fall semester. Please note that this is neither a clinical nor counseling program, and will not provide the coursework or training that lead to professional licensure.
