Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-06

This policy explains how the Selfcoder website, available at selfcoder.dev, handles personal data.

Who we are

This website is operated by Coderoom (“we”, “us”). For data-protection purposes, Coderoom is the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

You can contact us about this policy or your personal data at:

Contact: https://selfcoder.dev/contact

Scope of this policy

This policy covers the Selfcoder website. It does not mean that the Selfcoder VS Code extension collects data. The extension is designed to work locally and does not collect telemetry, use cloud syncing, or require an account.

If you leave our website by following links to GitHub, Microsoft (the VS Code Marketplace), Google, or another third-party service, that third party’s own privacy policy applies to its processing of your data.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising.

We use the following services to provide and operate the website:

  • Google Analytics - optional website analytics.
  • GitHub - hosts the Selfcoder project. If you visit GitHub, download files, or interact with the repository, GitHub processes your data under its own privacy statement.
  • Stripe - handles optional sponsorship payments.
  • Microsoft (VS Code Marketplace) - distributes the Selfcoder extension. If you install or review the extension, Microsoft processes your data under its own privacy statement.
  • Web3Forms - delivers messages submitted through our contact form.

These providers may process data as our service providers, processors, or independent controllers, depending on the service and the context.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used, such as which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and which devices and browsers are common. We use this information only in aggregate to improve the website.

Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies and may process information such as page visits, device and browser details, approximate location, and interactions with the site. Google uses IP addresses to estimate approximate location, but Google Analytics does not log or store individual IP addresses.

We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, remarketing, or profiling.

You can control analytics in two ways:

  • the banner shown on your first visit, where you can accept or decline analytics; and
  • the “Cookie settings” link in the footer, which lets you change your choice or withdraw consent at any time.

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal.

Sponsorships

If you choose to sponsor Selfcoder, the sponsorship buttons send you to a secure Stripe payment page. Stripe handles the payment process.

We do not receive or store your full card number, card security code, or bank account details. We may receive limited sponsorship information from Stripe, such as your name, email address, sponsorship amount, date, payment status, and transaction reference, where this is necessary to confirm the sponsorship, handle receipts, refunds, fraud prevention, accounting, or support.

Stripe processes your information under its own privacy policy.

The legal basis for processing sponsorship-related information is that it is necessary to process your sponsorship and our legitimate interests in keeping appropriate payment and accounting records. Where we are legally required to keep financial records, the legal basis is compliance with a legal obligation.

Contacting us

If you use our contact form, email us, or open an issue on our GitHub repository, we receive the information you choose to send, such as your name, email address, GitHub username, and message.

We use this information only to read, manage, and respond to your request or issue.

Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to us by Web3Forms. Web3Forms processes the form submission and forwards it to us. Web3Forms may also process server logs for security and service-operation purposes.

The legal basis for contact messages is our legitimate interest in responding to inquiries and supporting Selfcoder. If your message relates to a request before entering into a contract or sponsorship-related support, the legal basis may also be taking steps at your request.

We keep contact messages only as long as needed to deal with your request and for a reasonable period afterward in case of follow-up questions, unless we need to keep them longer for legal, security, or dispute-resolution reasons.

How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy.

  • Analytics: retained according to our Google Analytics retention setting: 14 months.
  • Contact messages: kept only as long as needed to deal with your request and reasonable follow-up, unless a longer period is needed for legal, security, or dispute-resolution reasons.
  • Sponsorship records: kept as long as needed to process the sponsorship and comply with accounting, tax, legal, refund, fraud-prevention, and dispute-resolution obligations.

No ads, profiling, or sale of data

We do not run ads on the website. We do not use your data for advertising profiling. We do not sell your personal data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the current version. If we make significant changes, we will note them on this page.
