Welcome to Space at the Center

Welcome! This newsletter is a set of essays documenting the various books, letters, pictures, and host of other primary and secondary sources I use to teach my Introduction to African-American Studies course as a tenure-track assistant professor. I share the history and art museums I attend, specialized tours I take, and my own family history along the way. As a bonus, my podcast is dedicated to sharing my journey through the traditional publishing process as I write my first book. Subscribe to be part of the conversation and receive bi-monthly newsletters straight to your inbox or to get notified every time I publish on the Substack app!

The Space at the Center Philosophy

‘Space at the Center’ is a platform initially built in response to academic spaces that do not often center black voices, black archives, and black research. In light of the recent political moment, centering black, latinx, indigenous, asian, and all other voices that take up space outside of the mainstream seems imperative. Space at the Center intends to curate a space for those conversations through public intellectualism.
