Guest user preferences

If you’re an administrator of your Mac, you can let other people use your Mac temporarily as guest users without adding them as individual users. You can use parental controls to set restrictions so guests can access only items that you want to share.

Guest access works with the Find My Mac feature of iCloud to help you find your Mac if you lose it. You can locate your Mac if someone finds it, logs in as a guest, and then uses Safari to access the Internet. See Use Find My Mac.

Note: If FileVault is turned on, guests can only use Safari and can’t access your encrypted disk or create files.

To view these preferences, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Users & Groups, then select Guest User on the left. If a guest is logged in to your Mac now, you can’t select Guest User.

Allow guests to log in to this computer				Lets others log in to your Mac without entering a password. Guest users can’t log in remotely. If you select this option, you can also select the following one.
Enable parental controls				Turns on parental controls for guest users with login privileges. To set restrictions on what guest users can do, click Open Parental Controls and select options. For more information, see Set up parental controls.
Allow guests to connect to shared folders				Lets a guest user access shared folders from another computer on your network.
Add and Remove				To add a new user or group, click the Add button , then enter the information for the new user or group. To delete a user or group, select it in the list, then click the Remove button . For more information, see Delete a user or group.
Lock				Locks or unlocks Users & Groups preferences. Click the lock icon to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.
