I’m Tomas.
I’m a multi-award-winning British filmmaker and writer. My first feature documentary, In No Great Hurry—about photographer Saul Leiter—was released to international critical acclaim, followed by The Lure, a treasure-hunt epic executive-produced by Errol Morris. My work spans gold-medal athletes, artists, prison sports teams, global gallery exhibitions, and films for NASA, Adidas, IBM, and other major brands. I created the artist series Little Scraps of Paper, give talks on creativity and consult on long-form storytelling, and I’m currently developing two fiction features from his own screenplays. I’m also deep into production on a new feature documentary, which I share lots about here.
Ok, so what is this Tomas?
This is going to be a place for the little scraps of ideas and thoughts that go into making films and being a human being at the same time.
Indiewire describe this newsletter as ‘thoughtful and informative literary reflections on the filmmaking process’.
I love sharing about process. I think transparency has been sorely lacking in the film industry. I enjoy working out what I feel about something by writing about it. And I want to get you all excited about what I’m making.
Things like the luxury of writing retreats, getting fired and crying in the street, or the kind of notes I write whilst making a film.
