Too many people experience adversity early on in their lives. Physical, emotional or sexual abuse, neglect, witnessing violence, addiction, mental illness in the family, bullying, clerical abuse, racism, separation from caregivers - experiences like these are incredibly common, and can profoundly disrupt a child’s psychological, emotional and neurological development.
Chronic stress in childhood does not dissolve with time. It shapes who we become.
I know this not just from research, but from my own lived experience.
And trauma doesn’t spare adults either. Domestic violence, workplace mistreatment, geopolitical conflict, forced displacement, financial insecurity and systemic injustice can shake a person’s world to its core.
Despite how common trauma is, we still treat it as a taboo. But health and true resilience depend on being able to talk about the hard things, to receive support, and to approach difficult circumstances with clarity and compassion.
I created Trauma At Work to help people grow after adversity, and to bring trauma-informed practice into the workplace — the place where most of us spend the majority of our lives.
I’ve worked in corporate HR for more than 20 years. Work was my anchor — my pathway to safety, independence and possibility. But as I learned more about complex trauma, I began to see how my history shaped my behaviour, relationships and sense of self at work. And I realised how little our workplaces are designed to support people with lived experience of trauma.
Through Trauma At Work, I talk about the things I wish I had known 20 years ago — or even five.
I connect with survivors and their allies.
I name the hidden impact of adversity on work and wellbeing.
I share the scientifical insights and personal experiences that have helped me rediscover safety, joy, and meaningful growth.
And I hope to chip away at the shame attached to the word trauma, so we can meet our past — and each other — with honesty, compassion and hope.

Thank you for being here. Let’s make the world a little more trauma-wise — one person, one workplace, one day at a time.
