the inspiration
There is a chorus by Jessica Kohout that puts language to one of my biggest heart cries. It goes like this:
How long is this life?
Is it the length of a breath,
The time it takes to take a step
Through a doorway?
On the other side
Is eternity with God.
It goes on and on and on.
We’re living for that day.
This lifetime is so short compared to the eternity we have with God. This realization changed my life.
Right now, we see dimly, like through a dirty mirror. One day — that will come soon and happen suddenly — we’ll cross that threshold into eternity with God. We’ll find that we have zero regrets for being all in, and everything that seemed radical or over the top in this life was simply fitting compared to His beauty.
There is grace to go all the way in our pursuit of God. I want to lay hold of it!
so why write?
I’ll be honest: Writing from the heart is vulnerable. It’s tempting to hide words in disorganized scribbles in a journal or notes on my phone.
But the human heart was not meant to walk alone.
So instead of hiding behind journal pages, I choose to share the words and moments I’m finding God in with you. I also throw in original poems and creative writing for fun. I hope we find encouragement through life’s sweet moments and teary ones. I hope we pray the scary, gutsy prayers. And I hope our faces turn toward Him, the only writer who really knows the language of our hearts.
This life is a doorway, and we’re almost across the threshold. Let’s seek His face together, shall we?

about me 👋🏼
I’m a singer, musician, teacher, and writer in Kansas City. Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle first showed me the magic of storytelling. I love taking my dog Bella for walks, spinning donuts in the car on a snowy day, and going to coffee shops with friends... And I’m always on the search for the best chai latte in KC.
I am able to continue writing because of the generosity of people like you! If you feel led, you can support my writing ministry by giving a tax-deductible donation here. Thank you!
