Zamboanga Water System Project

This document provides details about a proposed water system project in Zamboanga City, Philippines. The project involves constructing and rehabilitating water infrastructure to provide access to potable water for residents in rural barangays that currently lack access. Specific project components include laying 55.35 km of pipelines, constructing a 10m x 9.5m impounding dam, and two 300 cubic meter concrete ground tanks. The project aims to improve access to water for over 7,400 households in 8 barangays by sourcing water from an ideal source that has passed drinking water standards.

2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION 2.1 Project Location and Area (see attached NAMRIA Map of Project Location and area) 2.2 Project Rationale Water is a basic necessity of life. But for some residents in rural areas in the City, access to safe, clean and potable water is a luxury which they could hardly afford. Zamboanga City is among the few cities in the country endowed with pristine surface water which almost requires very minimal treatment procedures. The Zamboanga City Water District, in partnership with the Local Government of Zamboanga has come up with a water system project which aims to serve the affected constituents in the west coast area particularly barangays which do not have access to the services of ZCWD and at the same time improve existing service areas where water pressure, because of population or its strategic location, is low. ZCWD has identified an ideal water source in the outskirts of the Pasonanca Watershed whose raw water quality has already passed the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water. This has a discharge of 47.25 liters per second (750 gallons per minute) and is located at an elevation of 869.00 meters AMSL. It has been determined to have the capacity to serve some 37,112 persons or 7,423 households in the west coast area of the city. The targeted barangay beneficiaries of this project includes: Baluno, Capisan, Dulian, Calarian, Cawit, Malagutay, San Roque, and Sinunuc. 2.3 Project Component List This project includes the laying of 55.350 kilometers of pipelines, construction of 10 meters by 9.5 meters impounding dam; and construction of two (2) units 300 cubic meter capacity concrete ground tanks. At the source, an impounding dam will be constructed which has two chambers and is designed to filter floating sediments from the creek. The pipelaying works will start at the source where the 2,000.00 linear meters of 200mm G.I. Pipe will serve as the main transmission line with concrete pipe support at every three (3) meter interval. This will be interconnected to the 6,300.00 linear meter of 200mm PVC transmission line.

From the 200mm PVC transmission line, the 21,000.00 linear meter 100mm PVC distribution line will be interconnected at Sta. 06+300.00 (along Sitio Bandera) at an elevation of 600.56 meters AMSL. This distribution line will end at the entrance from the highway to Barangay Cawit. Along this distribution line, there will be constructed a 300 cubic meter capacity concrete ground tank at Sitio Baluno. From the 200mm PVC transmission line, the 1,200.00 linear meter 150 mm PVC distribution line will also be interconnected and will end at the 300 cubic meter capacity ground tank which is located in the vicinity of the Multi-purpose Hall of Sitio Bandera, near the Bandera Elementary School. From this concrete ground tank, which is located at Sta. 01+100.00 at an elevation 682.66 meters AMSL, the 18,900.00 linear meters 100 mm PVC distribution line will be connected. This distribution line will end at the junction of Capisan-Malagutay. From this distribution line will be interconnected the 3,055.00 linear meters 100 mm PVC distribution line, which ends at the highway entrance to Flamingo in Upper Calarian, and the 2,504.00 linear meters 100 mm PVC distribution line, which ends at the junction of entrance to Pasay Road to the Main Barangay Road in San Roque.
