Year: Date: Year 5 Wednesday 29th May 2013 Curriculum Area: Time Period: Literacy Period 1 and 2 (120 Minutes)

Specific Lesson Learning Goals Students will be able to: Write a draft of their persuasive letter Edit their draft persuasive letter Edit a peers persuasive letter

Students Prior Knowledge: Students have read the first four chapters of Charlottes Web. Students have experience with persuasive writing. The students are aware that this is preparation time for the Assessment. The details of the Assessment have been given to the students and they are aware of what is expected of them and the work that they must produce. Preparation: Literacy Books White board and white board markers

LESSON PLAN
Time: Start 10 Minutes Lesson Progression Gather the students at their desks and ask for quiet and attention Let the students know that we are going to be working on the assessment as discussed with Miss D yesterday Ask the students to recap what the assessment is about Ask the students to tell me the structure of a persuasive letter Write the persuasive letter structure on the board Remind the students that a paragraph is at least 6 sentences Let the students know what they need to get done by the end of the double lesson 20 Minutes 80 Minutes 95 Minutes 110 Minutes 120 Minutes Write the draft Self-edit the draft Peer edit a partners draft

Ask the students if they have any questions about the task today Explain to the students that they will be working independently on their drafts Have the students begin working on their draft (with Red Pirate voices) Walk around the classroom, look at the drafts, basic discussions with the students Ask for the students attention Let all of the students know they should be moving on to editing their own work Have the students begin working on their self-editing (with Red Pirate voices) Walk around the classroom, look at the editing, basic discussions with the students Ask for the students attention Ask all of the students who are finished to swap their literacy book with another student who is finished writing their draft Remind the students to look carefully at spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary Have the students begin working on their peer editing (with Red Pirate voices) Walk around the classroom, look at the editing, basic discussions with the students Ask for the students attention Ask the students to swap their Literacy books back Ask the students if they have any questions about the task they have been doing or tomorrows assessment Ask the students to put away their Literacy books remind the students they will need their drafts for tomorrow

Informal Assessment of Student Outcomes What will you assess? Write a draft of their persuasive letter Edit their draft persuasive letter Edit a peers persuasive letter How will you assess? What evidence will you collect? I will look at the students Literacy books to ensure that they are writing and self-editing. I will ensure that the students swap books with a partner to ensure they engage in peer editing. As this is for an Assessment piece, I will not be making corrections on the students work.
