Movie Maker

How to Import Video


First create a folder in your user area (My Documents) and name it video editing.
Copy and Paste the unedited video footage that you have already taken into this
new folder.
egin !y opening Movie Maker from the "tart Menu.
From the task pane on the left under num!er # choose import video.
rowse to your new folder and select the video clip you $ust copied.
%ow save the pro$ect with sensi!le name in the folder you created.
How to Add Clips to the Timeline/Storyboard
Choose the story!oard view from the &iew Menu or from the !ottom of the
window.
Drag the clips from the window to the larger slots on the story!oard at the
!ottom.
'ou may want to leave some clips out if they are too long or pointless.

How to Split a Clip
.nce all of the clips you want to use are on the timeline you will need to split
some clips in order to delete some of the clip that may !e too long or may $ump
from one scene to another. -o split a clip change to -imeline &iew and place the
play head at the point you want to split the clip.
How to Trim a Clip
-o make a clip shorter move the mouse pointer over the end of the clip until it
turns into a red arrow and drag. /et go once the clip is shortened to where you
want it. 0se the 1oom if it helps.

How to Add Transitions
-ransitions allow a change from one scene to
the ne2t without a $ump. ,t gives a smooth
change from one thing to the ne2t.
Choose -ransitions from the -ask Pane under

transition from the collection onto the
smaller !o2es on the !ottom !etween the
clips. Don3t go mad and choose sensi!le
transitions only where they are needed i.e.
where there is a scene change.
How to Add Video Efects

!righten or add a special e5ect onto a
clip. %ot all e5ects are useful or
appropriate !ut at least one must !e
applied to one clip.
Choose 45ects from the -ask Pane on
the left and drag an e5ect onto a clip.

How to Import a Sondtrack!
Add a Sondtrack! "ade ot a Sondtrack
7dding a soundtrack enhances the video and makes for a !etter atmosphere for
your viewers. -o import an mp86 wav or wma 9le
choose ,mport 7udio from the task pane on the
left and !rowse for the 9le to use.

Change to the -imeline &iew and drag the
audio 9le to the 7udio section of the timeline. -rimming and splitting is the same
as with a &ideo Clip. ,f the music is not long enough add another 9le and trim it
to 9t the length of the clip. Fade out the music at the end.
"elect the 7udio then choose Clip from the menu and Fade .ut. 7lternatively
right click on the 7udio clip and choose Fade .ut.
How to Add Titles and Credits
%o 9lm is complete without a title and the credits that run at the end. Choose
-itles and Credits from the -ask Pane on the left. Choose -itle at the !eginning.

How to E#port the $ro%ect
.nce the pro$ect is complete and contains all of the elements re<uired it needs
saving as a movie. Make sure you save the pro$ect one more time !efore
e2porting.
From the File Menu choose Make Movie. From the options choose to save a 9le for
play!ack on the computer. .n the ne2t screen !rowse to the folder you created
and give the 9nished movie a name. .n the ne2t screen make no changes and
wait until the video is complete. Finally you will get the option to watch the video
in =indows Media Player.
How to &atch the "inished Video Clip
:o to your folder to 9nd the completed movie. Dou!le click to play.
