Compatibility with Future Patch and Maintenance Versions of

Applications
Future patch and maintenance versions of the applications listed in this document are
expected to be compatible with the DD OS versions listed in the tables for each
application. Specifically, this implies that EMC Data Domain may not necessarily test or
qualify a future version of the application and does not guarantee ongoing compatibility.
The application, including future versions, will be supported by EMC Data Domain;
troubleshooting and analysis will take place until EMC Data Domain determines that the
cause of the problem is a change in a future version. At this point, EMC Data Domain
reserves the right to request a downgrade to a known, working solution. Do not assume
that new features or work flows that come with new patch or maintenance versions are
compatible with EMC Data Domain unless specifically identified as such.

Managed File Replication Version Compatibility Policy

DD Boost supports bidirectional managed file replication as follows. You can implement
bidirectional file replication between Data Domain source and destination systems that
are within two release families of each other, so long as the DD Boost plug-in version
used is compatible with both the source and destination DD OS versions. The DD Boost
plug-in is compatible with the DD OS version it accompanies, the preceding DD OS
version, and the following DD OS version. This table illustrates the compatibility:

For example, the DD Boost 2.3.x plug-in is compatible with DD OS versions 4.9.x, 5.0.x,
and 5.1.x. Therefore, when you use the DD Boost 2.3.x plug-in, you can implement
bidirectional managed file replication between Data Domain systems running DD OS
4.9.x and DD OS 5.1.x. But you cannot implement bidirectional managed file replication
between Data Domain systems running DD OS 5.0.x and DD OS 5.2.x or between systems
running DD OS 5.0.x and DD OS 4.8.x because the DD Boost 2.3.x plug-in is not
compatible with DD OS 5.2.x or 4.8.x according to the compatibility policy.

How to Use the Tables in this Document

Perform the following procedure to determine which versions of third party applications
and components are compatible with specific EMC Data Domain Operating System (DD
OS) versions and to obtain additional information needed to determine compatibility of a
desired configuration.

Procedure
1. Find the table for the desired application and version in the application tables.
2. Verify that an entry exists for the desired operating system version and CPU
architecture (platform) in the table.
3. Ensure the Data Domain system is running at the specified DD OS version in the DD
OS column and the specified DD Boost version in the DD Boost column.

General Compatibility Conditions

Be aware of these general conditions that affect the operation of several DD Boost-related
applications and technologies.

version must be 11.31.14.

The Data Domain Boost libraries are included in the Avamar software. Once Avamar
6.0 or higher is installed, all the necessary DD Boost components are also installed.

Backups over WAN are not supported with Avamar DD Boost integration.

Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, Oracle, VMware Image backups, DB2, Sybase, SAP
and Hyper-V to Data Domain systems using DD Boost integration are supported. For
specific details on application versions, please see the Avamar 6.1 compatibility list.

Data Domain Global Deduplication Array is not supported.

EMC/Data Domain does not test all IBM POWER-based server models and relies on
the IBM AIX 5L Version 5 binary compatibility statement; see http://
www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/aix/compatibility/index.html for more
information.

The DD OS app-optimized-compression option (as in filesys option

set app-optimized-compression) must be disabled when using Avamar 7.0.

The DD Boost libraries are included in the Greenplum software. Once the Greenplum
software version 4.2.1 or higher is installed, all the necessary DD Boost components
are also installed.

Data Domain Global Deduplication Array is not supported.

Managed file replication is not supported with the Pivotal Greenplum Database
software releases prior to 4.2.5.

Backups over WAN are not supported.

The virtual synthetic full backup and clone feature in NetWorker 8.1 requires DD OS
version 5.3 or later.

The Data Domain Boost libraries are included in the NetWorker software. Once
NetWorker 7.6.1 or higher is installed, all the necessary DD Boost components are
also installed.

Support for backups over WAN may be possible in certain configurations. If you are
interested in such support, you can submit a request for product qualification (RPQ).
Please contact your EMC Backup Recovery Systems sales representative for more
information.

NetWorker Module for Microsoft (NMM) version 2.3 supports Direct File Access (DFA)
with NetWorker Data Domain Boost devices, which enables backup data to bypass
the storage node and go directly to the Data Domain System. Please see the
NetWorker compatibility matrix for specific details.

DD Boost over FC does not support EMC PowerPath. In general, PowerPath must be
disabled in configurations that include DD Boost over FC. However, on Windows
servers, disabling the General Purpose Extension (GPX) within PowerPath 5.7 is

32-bit Backup Exec 2010 installation and the 64-bit OST plug-in must be used on a
64-bit Backup Exec 2010 installation.

Optimized Duplication with Backup Exec requires OST plug-in 2.3.x and DD OS 4.9.1
or later. Backup Exec 2010 R2 or R3 or Backup Exec 2012 is required. Backup Exec

Supports DD Boost over FC as transport with the DD Boost 2.6 plug-in. Both are
updated on Symantecs Hardware Compatibility List (HCL).

NBU 7.5 feature support is the same for both DD Boost over IP and DD Boost over
FC.

The NBU 7.5 feature Optimized Duplication requires TCP/IP transport between
the two Data Domain systems.

NBU 7.6 compatibility details:

HPUX 11.23 on the PA-RISC architecture supports the media server or client only.

servers, disabling the General Purpose Extension (GPX) within PowerPath 5.7 is
supported with DD Boost over FC.

A single host-side FC port may not be used for both DD Boost over FC and VTL
traffic to the same Data Domain system.

A single host-side FC port may be used for DD Boost for FC traffic to a Data Domain

A single host-side FC port may be used for DD Boost over FC traffic and for other
traffic to non-Data Domain devices.

All HBA driver versions are supported; a list of supported operating systems can be

Unlike DD VTL, DD Boost over FC clients do not require driver support for tape devices
